What is addiction? Addiction is "the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity." Some people have a false view on addiction. They believe that it is only for people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, but that is not the case.
I'm sure you've seen the many articles about celebrities fighting their addictions, but guess what? They chose their suffering. Just like the tobacco commercials that prove the point that they are signing a contract by lighting it up, you are too. When you take your first swig or light your first cigarette (or whatever else you can think of), you are signing a contract that could potentially hurt your family, friends, and yourself.
I'm sure you think it looks cool when you're in college and everyone else is doing it, but is it really worth it?
You will ultimately regret your decision when you end up at the butt of your own addiction. You may not think that it's a big deal now, but one leads to two and two leads to three. Eventually, you will be at the beckoning call of your addiction. You will have to have it in order to survive. And you'll possibly turn around and realize that you've lost the love of your life, or you've lost everything you've ever cared about. You spiraled out of control, and they weren't just going to stand there and wait for you. They tried to help you, and you ignored them. They wanted to make sure that you would be alright, but you didn't care. All you wanted to do was feed your addiction.
I'm sorry if I'm being too frank with you, but I don't feel sorry for you.
I wish you all the best, but I'm not sorry. Because of your addiction, you lost yourself. Maybe you graduated high school as the valedictorian of your class, or maybe you barely crawled your way out. Either way, you had the chance to say no. You had the common sense to say no. You had the opportunity to leave and not take part in what everyone else was doing because you knew what you were doing was wrong.
Want to feel good about yourself without ruining everything you've ever wanted? Stay on track, exercise, get a dog, you get the point - do something that makes you happy, without hurting your future. Sure, it may be harder for you to get adjusted to a new lifestyle, but it is so worth it.
