You see the advertisements on TV, on your phone, laptop, etc. about how a good deed goes a long way... before you read this article any further, take five minutes to see this video attached, and reflect on its message. Trust me, this video is worth those five minutes.
Now that you've watched the video, think about how it made you feel to see these strangers come together and help one another, while each one was struggling at one point. A little goes a long way in this world and I myself have examples of little deeds complete strangers have done for me and vice versa.
Just a few weeks ago, I was in Bed Bath and Beyond making a purchase for college. As I was standing on line, an older woman approached me holding a coupon. She asked if I had coupons and before I could answer, she handed me a 20% off my entire purchase coupon. Unsure if I should accept it, I asked this generous woman if she was sure she wanted to give up a coupon of that value. She assured me to take it and I thanked her multiple times.
In response to her act of kindness, I decided to continue the trend. No matter how big or small the good deed is, it's the thought that counts. So at that moment, I began to pay it forward, whether it was holding a door open or just a smile to help brighten one's day!
My take on all of this is derived from the idea that you never know what people are going through. By being empathetic and performing acts of kindness, you can help turn someone's bad day into a good or better one. I like to say that today might not be a good day, but there is good in every day.
So, readers, I challenge you to start today! Do something kind every day, and I promise, it feels very rewarding knowing you helped someone. There's a saying in my town by a respected, kind man, who passed away not too long ago, "Make someone's day today!" Go out and make someone's day!
