What They Don't Say About Transferring As A Student
Jennifer Perez

Being a transfer student has so many ups and downs. You get to experience college in not just one location, but in two or more, you meet so many people, and get so many amazing experiences. But it’s also a time of transition, change, and often loneliness.

You have to say goodbye every time, and it hurts each time.

After you graduate high school and go your separate ways, you mourn that for awhile. But soon you meet new people and make new connection in college. Once you transfer or graduate from that college, you go through that cycle again. But not just your friends, but your family as well, again. You say goodbye to a home every time you transfer.

Meeting people is hard. Like really really hard.

You made friends and you said bye to those friends. Now it's time to make friends again. Finding people you want to spend time with, people you'd share your food with is a lot harder than it sounds. Especially because by the time you transferred over, people already have their friends and groups.

You now have more than one campus memorized.

You memorized your classes and buildings for more than one college. Don't let anyone tell you that you're a Dory. You know the ins and outs of buildings, where the best tree is to study under, and where to get the best burritos and cheese dip, on and off campus.

Roommates.

If you lived at home and went to the community college in town then you're now in the world of roommates. Or if you built your home with your last roommate(s). Maybe you'll get lucky and live with people you love and this will be the best year with the best people. And maybe it won't and you're counting down the days for your lease or year to end. Just remember to make the best of the situation you're in!

Transferring credits means getting a migraine.

There seems to always be issue after issue when transferring in your degree or credits to a new school. You'll be making phone calls to two schools, meetings and meetings about what you need, and trying to get both of them to work with each other. You'll need a cup of coffee and a glass of wine. Or two. Actually make it three.

You're going to miss so many people (and pets.)

You're going to miss your high school friends, your community college friends, your other university friends, and your and their pets. I'm lucky to live close to home and have friends who make an effort to see me and I with them. But there are moments where you're so overwhelming lonely and miss that comfort of what you know. Sometimes you want your mom, your old roommate, your best friend, and especially your dogs.

But hey, look up. You transferred for a reason, and maybe you'll transfer again but right now you're where you are meant to be. And if you ever go back, at least you know where to get the best cheese dip!

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
