Human rights. The most argued and fought about topic in the United States today. Some people have narrowed thoughts on what human rights are, and others think that choosing a bathroom to relieve yourself in is a human right (that’s a privilege, a luxury by the way, not a right).
However, there is one human right that we should never have to fight over here in America, and yet averagely 3,000 violations of this right are recorded every day.
This right is the right to life. The right to be born and live. That is right, 3,000 unborn children are murdered every day in the United States and nothing is said about it because it’s all in the name of female reproductive rights. And I love to be the one to burst your safe space bubble, but science proves that at least at eight weeks that fetus has a heartbeat meaning that child is alive. It is not your right to murder that child.
Everyone always fights about how we will not let a mass killing ever happen again. From the Holocaust to the Rwandan Genocide, everyone is up in arms about the slaughtering of innocent people. But there’s a new genocide that no one talks about. The genocide of unborn children. What I like to call: The Silent Genocide.
This year March for Life had their 45th Anniversary on Friday, January 19th. For 45 years, we have been fighting for the voice of the unborn. We are the voice of the ones who cannot have a voice. Respectfully, people are entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. However, the right to life shouldn’t be negotiable.
All religion aside because not everyone is Christian or religious, and will not take religious arguments as valid, I’d like to briefly give insight to the pro-life stance in terms of abortion from a logical and scientific angle.
The arguments are all there: financial reasons, too young, simply don’t want a child, rape, and many, many more. And while, it’s easy to sympathize with the majority of these reasons, it’s still not good enough. I like to divide my arguments into two sections, non-rape and rape because the arguments aren’t inconsistent but rather different in how it is approached.
First, I will discuss non-rape abortions. In the end, it all comes down to the fact that a woman and a man had sex. Sex in our western society is intended for two generalized categories: pleasure and reproduction. Pleasure meaning pleasure for oneself, their partner, and to share that intimacy with your partner. Reproduction meaning making children. Because sex has two intended purposes, even if you are using contraceptives, you are still inviting the fact that when you are having sex you are aware that a pregnancy could result in that action. That’s why you use contraceptives (and arguments on those tend to be more religious, therefore I will stay away from it).
If you are having sex, you should fully know that the possibility, even the smallest, is there that you could get pregnant from this.
So, when you act surprised that you are pregnant a few months down the road, it shouldn’t be surprising.
That also goes with if you aren’t financially stable to be having a child is it really that intelligent to be having sex? Financials are sadly a problem when it comes to children, and as hard it may be, people should realize that they shouldn’t be having sex and inviting the idea of another human being they have to take care of even when they can barely take care of themselves. I’m not saying you can’t have sex, I’m just saying that don’t be surprised if you end up pregnant because that’s an intricate part of sex. Financials aren’t a good enough reason to murder a child. Giving the child up for adoption and seeking help at local women's centers are resources women should be informed about if financials is a problem.
It’s sad also that teenagers are getting pregnant and then expecting an abortion, and even grown adults. That child is a child, no matter what circumstance and it is not OK to murder them. Sadly, people don’t believe that it’s an actual child. Like stated above, science has found that a heartbeat can be detected at 8 weeks. So, the argument shifts to, the baby is still reliant on the mother in the womb. My counter-argument is that when do you draw that line of independence? Many could say that after the child is born is when independence begins, but really if you left that child completely independent, they would sadly die.
So, when does independence begin?
Going back to just the fact that it is a human life. In cases of homicide, if a pregnant woman is murdered, the charges are two acts of homicide, but as soon as the mother decides she doesn’t want the baby the government says, “Oh, OK, it’s just a clump of cells.” What double standard is that? And what double standard are we telling ourselves? That a person is only a person when wanted? The logic does not add up. It doesn’t make sense.
Lastly, the baby is not part of the women.
Women have this lie fed to us about the whole, “my body, my choice.” Yes, your body, your choice to have sex, and your “consequence” of pregnancy. If you are having sex, you are opening yourself up to that possibility of reproduction, and that’s your choice, but it is not your choice to murder a defenseless child. You have to live with the “consequence” of your actions. You know you could get pregnant, and you willing take that risk.
That’s your fault, and sadly this unborn child has to pay for the price people are to ignorant to understand.
Next, in terms of rape, I cannot deny a woman the horror and immense hatred towards her situation when she finds out she’s pregnant from something like rape. But in the end, it is still a child. And that’s where we need support systems with them, and if they can’t bear to raise that child then adoption is an option that we have to begin pushing as a society. And I’m well aware that the foster care system is terrible, but to say and make a decision like “I don’t want to put my child through the foster care system, so it’s better to abort them” is wrong. The foster care system does need reform, and we should push for it because I feel it doesn’t get as much publicity as it needs. But, that child is still a human. Science proves that at the weeks that typical abortions happen, nerves, heart, toes, and other limbs and critical parts of us as humans have formed and are already functioning.
So, while yes, I promise you, a situation like rape is terrible, it is still not morally right to kill someone.
I know it sounds heartless, but that child shouldn’t have to pay for what that man did to her. It’s sad, it’s so sad, but we still need to protect this precious new life.
I’m not denouncing sex. I’m just saying to think before you make a decision like that. Today’s society has introduced this concept of “casual sex” where it’s just an activity or something for pleasure. A lot of people forget what sex also is. This emotional and intimate way of telling your partner you want something more with them; that you want to continue your love through generations. So, when you go to have sex, keep this in mind. It’s much more than simple pleasure, it’s human nature. It’s part of the circle of life. That’s why sex is something so special and precious all in itself.
The arguments in pro-life are rather simple. It comes down to the fact that it is a human life no matter what. It is not your choice to end it. We in America, especially, have that right to life. And right now, with all these human rights fights going on, we’ve seemed to have forgotten the most important right yet.
You can’t have human rights if you can’t even uphold the first one you had.
