Chelsea Handler sat down with a Playboy reporter to talk about how abortion affected her life. The article, titled "My Choice," was accompanied by a photo of her flipping off the camera. A pink ribbon was tied around her finger with a tag that reads "It's an abortion!"
She revealed that she had two abortions at the age of 16, and that she “doesn’t regret her decision at all.” Chelsea said she couldn’t even find her way home in the dark, let alone mother a child. It was a dark time in her life, turning to her then-boyfriend instead of finding a healthy way to cope with the turmoil of her teen years.
In an ironic situation, Chelsea says that she finally felt parented for the first time in her life when she was taken to an abortion clinic by her mother and father. When it was over, she says she felt “relieved in every way.”
To conclude her interview, Chelsea advocated for “anybody who carefully decides not to become a parent,” encouraging others to “applaud them for making a smart and sustainable decision.” In the picture above, Chelsea clears up any concerns that she may be pregnant. The photo's caption tells fans that the last time she was pregnant was in the photo in her hands. She also adds, "Wake up, people. I would never do that to a baby."
It is no secret that the topic of abortion brings up some heated and controversial questions. How do you feel about abortion? Do you believe it’s a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body? What about the unborn child? Do you consider it to be an embryo, simply a growth of cells? At what point do those cells become a human life? It is essential to ask these questions and examine your biases before making a stand on either side of this issue.
After reading the article and taking time to ponder her viewpoint, I have a few questions for Chelsea myself. Why did you feel that abortion was your only choice? Did you even consider adoption? Were you so selfish that you didn’t want to give up nine months of your life to carry and birth a child, only for someone else to raise it?
It saddens me to think she had no one to turn to for help—parents, counselors, teachers or friends. Maybe if she was aware of her options, she would have chosen differently. Maybe if she had someone to face the challenge with—someone to hold her hand and stand by her no matter what- she wouldn’t have felt that the abortion was her only choice.
Maybe if she had turned to God, instead of taking matters into her own hands, she would have felt His loving arms around her, begging her to save the innocent life growing inside her womb. But Chelsea didn’t feel that way about God. She told Playboy, “Even if there is a God, I highly doubt he wants everybody to go through with their pregnancies.”
Let me be the first to tell you that God is an all-knowing, sovereign God. He knows our actions before the thought even comes in our brains. No matter what you hear elsewhere, I am not afraid to say that God does not support abortion in any way.
Leviticus 24:17 tells us that anyone who takes a life will be put to death. The Bible doesn’t specifically use the term "abortion," but since abortion is the murder of an in utero child, it is considered murder in God’s eyes. You wouldn’t purposely kill your toddler, so why would you purposely kill your unborn baby?
God formed each and every tiny baby in its mother’s womb, and wove each child together with His own hands. The Creator of all the universe personally created every innocent baby in His own image; knowing its eye color, its personality and every detail that will come in that baby’s life. Why would anyone want to kill such a marvelous creation?
There are so many awful things happening in the world. Each day, I cringe while reading another news article about a murder, rape or attack on our country. Somehow, we, as a people, have convinced ourselves that cold-blooded murder is a woman’s decision—a right given to her by the Constitution.
In Biblical times, murder was wrong. It’s still wrong today. We must stand together as soldiers of Christ for what is right. We must teach the younger generations that murder is wrong and will not be tolerated. We must not support women like Chelsea Handler who are proud of their sins. Will you join me in the fight to protect all 974,000 innocent babies killed every single year?
