I Chose To Go On A Mission Trip For Spring Break

I know what you must be thinking, why would you pass on a fun college spring break to spend a week away from society in another country?

Well let me tell you some of the amazing things I experienced!

1. Disconnecting is freeing

7 days. No wifi. No connection. Just me, God, and 75 other people in Montego Bay Jamaica. When I first found out about the lack of wifi, the Gen Z in me started to freak out, but let me tell you something disconnecting from society for 7 days was AMAZING. I have never felt more free to be honest, and I have never had such genuine conversations with other people face to face.

Maybe we all need a detox.

2. Friendship, Genuine Friendship

Since we did not have phones, we were able to have real conversations and because of this I was able to make so many close friends that truly know and love me!

3. JOY

One of the things we did was build a house for a family whose house burned down. Throughout the first day of building, I got to interact with the family. It was amazing to see how joyful they were despite the fact that they had nothing. It really put things into perspective for me and made me realize that materialism is not everything in this world.

4. God is Everywhere

On another one of our days we went to a facility called West Haven, which is a home for exceptional needs kids. At first it was kind of challenging, but then we got to spend the day loving on kids who might not always feel loved. At one point during the day they started playing Christian Music and all the kids became so happy! They began dancing and singing, even some of the kids who were not even able to move were singing these songs at the top of their lungs. This small event made me realize that God is literally everywhere, even in a small Jamaican community with kids who are not as fortunate as we are.

These were just a few highlights from my trip, I know and understand that not everyone is religious or the same religion, but I just wanted to share some of my story!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
