I see articles all the time about girls who have a best friend that they do everything with. They have sleepovers almost every night, they are always together, and they call each other family.
We all need friends like that, but our friendship is different. You're my best friend because you simply get me. We may not hang out every day or FaceTime every time something happens, but at the end of the day, I know I have you.
You're the friend that I know can last a lifetime. You are someone I can tell absolutely anything to without feeling judged. When I'm sad, you're the first person I tell, and when I'm angry, you're always the person who keeps me grounded.
You're my best friend because you remind me that there are always better days and that the world is a good place.
You're the friend I can get coffee and do homework with. You're the friend I never feel slighted by. You genuinely care about why I'm happy or why I'm completely stressed out. You never make me feel like I'm a burden.
Even when you were at college thousands of miles away, I don't think we ever went a day without talking. Our friendships aren't a typical best friend relationship, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. You've been there for me through every heartbreak, every ugly funny picture I ever sent you, and endless long runs venting about life.
Even though we don't see each other much, there's no one else I'd rather have to have my back. I'm unbelievably thankful for you sticking by my side, even through the hideous middle school years that we know were so rough!
I can't wait for all our new memories together and to tell old stories when we're 40 having cocktails and eating way too many nachos... Because I know nothing will change by then.
I know, one day, we will look back and laugh about all the things that made us sad and still smile at all the good times we had together. You're the bestest friend a girl could ever ask for. I'm happy I was lucky enough to grow up down the street from you because, without you, life wouldn't be nearly as great.
So, thank you for being you, and please don't ever change.
