Being a New Englander all my life, when I first reached the South I didn't realize all the cultural differences at first. The South, no matter where you go, is a beautiful place filled with lovely people, but it sure isn't New England. The North will always have my heart, but the South and its culture should be appreciated.
1. Grocery stores start to have "funky" names.
Yep, "Piggly Wiggly" and "Food Lion" are real. Also, don't forget to grab a "buggey."
2. Fast food starts to look more tempting than usual.
Between Bojangles, Chick-Fil-A and Zaxby’s you know the South has been hiding something.
3. Everyone you meet is friendly.
No Masshole drivers or crazy New Yorkers down here.
4. You start to pick up on the Southern ‘twang.’
"Hey, y'all!" is almost too common.
5. Everyone in the South gets cold so easily.
In the North, cold doesn't phase us much.6. Snow.
Southerners are clueless when it comes to snow while Northerners are veterans to this kind of thing.7. Naturally in the North, we are always in a rush.
The South, on the other hand, is just one big vacation.
