I don't think college is bad, but it sure isn't heaven. There are close quarters and weird food, plus you start off in a new area without anyone with you. Personally, I have found many friends here and we have a blast together every day, but that does not negate the fact of these daily annoyances of college dorm life. Besides the obvious neighbors and homesickness, there are also odd annoyances such as never being alone or the self-flushing toilets or the weird food. Basically, college is just a weird time that you have to enjoy and endure.

1. Noisy neighbors

It's great to party and be social, but it can get irritating if your neighbors are CONSTANTLY being obnoxious and do not respect the sleep schedules of others.

2. Procrastination

Putting off working on a paper again and again until you have to do an all-nighter sucks. Even if you are working on homework every day, you can put off certain subjects because they are on different days but then you just have to do them later when you are more tired.

3. Identifying who you and others are

On the first few weeks of school, you had to identify yourself to everyone you saw, but struggling to figure that out can be tough. Then you also have to remember a huge amount of random strangers and their names... I for one can barely remember my own name, let alone every other person I see.

4. Self-flushing toilets

Sure, they are great since you do not have to flush a toilet...until they flush before you are done and then never flush again. Having to deal with them every day is super annoying.

5. No one has to love you.

At home you could have a rough time with friends and then go home, or have a bad day and find space to feel calm. In college, you must find new friends that will tolerate you 24/7 and you have to be able to hang with them all of the time too. Sure, you can change that up, but your neighbors and roommate do not change so easily. There are plenty of cases in which roommates are not best friends forever.

6. You have to walk EVERYWHERE.

If you live in Marycrest you will complain about the long distances you have to travel to get to class, but you have it easy compared to VWK or the longest walk, Stuart. Every day we die on Stuart hill to get to class and hope we are not late.

7. You're supposed to be figuring out your life when really you're procrastinating again.

Between school work and social life, who has time to remember that we are only preparing for the future here? There must be scholarships to fill out and internships to apply for, there is no time for dilly-dallying, and yet there we go again procrastinating.

8. The food

The food is weird and all I do is eat the same thing every day. I wish that the school did not force students to purchase meal plans.

9. Itty bitty tiny living spaces

Let's face it, the dorm rooms are as tiny as a lamp. You have to share this tiny space with at least one other person, if not two other people (sorry Marycrest) and there is not even a sink.

And as a BONUS: YOU'RE POOR

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
