As someone who has been flying at least once a year since I was nine, I like to think I've got some experience and have learned a thing or two that will help you during your travels. Inspired by my editor-in-chief, Katherine's article, and with my mini-vacation/trip coming up this next weekend, here are just a few tips that could make your travel more organized and overall just a better experience! (Most of these correlate with the plane ride and your carry-on.)

1. Bring gum.

Gum is a lifesaver when flying. It is always something I have when traveling via airplane. It's good to chew and help with the change in air pressure during take off and landing. On top of that, you'll just feel more refreshed.

2. Lip balm and lotion are a must.

While on the airplane, the air is a lot drier. Having these two things will help keep your lips and skin hydrated.

3. Remember, liquids can be no bigger than 3.4 fluid ounces if they're in your carry-on.

It's hard to remember that it's exactly 3.4 fluid ounces, so buying smaller products at Walmart or Target is handy. Personally, I would recommend buying a kit that is sold at Target. The kit comes with little containers you can fill with your shampoo, conditioner, lotion, mouthwash, hair products, etc., and comes with a clear quart-size bag to keep them all in. The best part: It's TSA approved.

4. Pack an extra outfit.

In your carry-on, packing an extra outfit is a great idea. I would recommend that you pack a nice outfit if you have something to go or do as soon as you arrive, or pack the opposite of what you are wearing. What I mean by this is that if you're wearing shorts, pack a pair of light pants (sweats, jeans, leggings, capris) and vice versa. This is so if they're was a change in temperature, or if you got hot/cold, you would be able to be prepared for it.

5. Be sensible dressed to the airport.

Don't come to the airport wearing a whole lot of jewelry and/or hard-to-get-on-or-off shoes. The people in the security check line behind you will not appreciate it. Wearing comfortable clothes and shoes that are relatively easy shoes to get on and off. Trust me on this.

6. Pack a pen and paper.

If you're on a longer flight, this will help pass some time, whether you're writing or doodling away. I like to bring a coloring book and some colored pencils or markers as well.

7. Bring your charger cords and a portable charger.

Some flights have outlets, so you'll be good, if you're low on battery. However, not all have them, so having a portable charger will be your dying phone's hero. Even if there are no outlets on the plane, if you have a layover (like I usually do), there are outlets all throughout the airport, as well as charging stations.

8. Bring a read.

Whether it's a book or magazine, this will also help pass the time on the flight.

9. Headphones, headphones, headphones. (Or earbuds, earbuds, earbuds.)

I can't stress this one enough. Bring headphones (and a device with music, videos or movies). You'll be able to tune out the people around you and it'll be nice for that nap you'll probably take.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
