9 Thoughts I've Had During Syllabus Week

One would think it would be common sense to allow coffee in a Monday morning class... apparently, everything I knew is wrong.

9 Thoughts I've Had During Syllabus Week

Syllabus week is a different kind of hell week. You're not stressed by the actual work, but more so the idea of it and facing a whole new year is just... unpredictable and exhausting.

1. Well, at least my roommate isn't terrible.

We communicate a lot more than the roommate I had freshman year. She seems nice enough, and has the decency to ask before taking any food.

2. What is a wardrobe?

Why am I even bothering with that mega uncomfortable underwire just because it's the only strapless I've got? I'll go with something more comfortable, even if it shows. I'll be wearing basically PJs for the rest of the semester anyway.

3. I wonder how that one professor who's a stickler will react to me having to go to Portland next month...

I'm not getting out of it. Family functions are a thing. Students have lives. And is it too much to allow at least one coffee in class? It's a MWF (One of which is MONDAY) for God's sake!

4. At least I have two professors who seem to like me...

One I've had before, the other I have seen outside of class and is a fellow Whovian. In the end, it will be the work that matters, but at least they can't hate me for no reason.

5. Do you have any idea how many trees you're killing?

We don't need to print out everything! It's bad for the environment, not to mention we have quotas now. And you know I'm an English major, I write like 5 papers a semester! Maybe more!

6. Are we going to start actual writing soon?

Are all creative writing classes like this? You know, where you have to read a bunch of crap before writing? Well, in my experience, the best way to get better at writing is ACTUALLY WRITING.

7. Why must seminars be required?

It's total extroversion supremacy, what exactly is that supposed to prove? That shy and less orally articulate people like me won't get anywhere in life? But at least it's on Edgar Allan Poe. I like Poe. I understand Poe.

8. I'm so bored...when are clubs going to start back up?

They're something to do when you're not in class, and provide an excuse to see people you actually like. Plus, many provide free food.

9. All this crap will be worth it when I pass...and when I go to London next semester

Most of my required classes will be done come Spring semester, so I'll have some leeway when I pick classes. I'm especially excited for Study Abroad in London, which is somewhere I've always wanted to go. I'm also planning to possibly visit Cardiff, Ireland, and a bunch of other places in Europe. It'll be a dream come true, and I can't wait! I just gotta survive Fall semester first!

Happy end of syllabus week, and good luck this semester!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
