Depression is something that many people say they have nowadays. Whether it's self-diagnosed, or diagnosed by a doctor, it is becoming more and more prominent. Many will turn to medications to treat their depression, and that may help to some extent, but there are so many other things you can do to help kick your depression to the curb.

1. Take your vitamins

Taking vitamins everyday can make such a difference in how your body goes about your everyday life. Whether it's a B12 vitamin to help with your energy, or Biotin to help with your hair, vitamins will leave you feeling, and looking so much better.

2. Take a yoga class

Yoga is something that was so eye-opening to me. It puts your mind at ease in so many ways, and you get a good workout from it too! Being able to only focus on your breathing is enough to relax your body and thoughts. With the help of essential oils and relaxation, you will leave your yoga class feeling like a new person!

3. Get a good night's sleep

Getting a good eight hours of sleep is hard to do for almost anyone. Whether you have trouble falling asleep and you're up until early hours, or you can't stay asleep and you're up as soon as the sun rises. Either way, sleep is so important for the body and lack thereof can make you feel sluggish and more depressed.

4. Turn to writing to get your feelings out of your head

A lot of times you are unable to vocalize what you are feeling and thinking. A good way to get it out of your mind is to write it down. Keep a diary or journal, or join The Odyssey Online! Joining The Odyssey personally was such a help for me to be able to write every single week.

5. Go out with an old friend

Sometimes going out to dinner with someone from high school or someone who you haven't seen in a few years can make you feel better. The nostalgia that you feel from reminiscing on old memories will make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

6. Buy something nice for yourself

Retail therapy is arguably the best cure for anything. I'm not saying you should go out and spend hundreds of dollars on things you don't necessarily need, but buying something nice for yourself here and there can definitely make you feel more happy and excited.

7. Take a bath

Taking a bath can have so many relaxing and calming effects on the body. Put some bubble bath in, light a candle and grab a good book to make yourself feel so relaxed.

8. Have some alone time, but not too much.

Alone time can be good to reflect on your own thoughts, but not too much. Being constantly surrounded by people can become overwhelming, but having some time to yourself can be enough to calm the mind and body.

9. Eat breakfast!

Notably, the most important meal of the day, not having breakfast can leave you not only hungry, but cranky too. Eating a good breakfast every day can leave you feeling more energized and ready to face the day.

10. Go for a run.

Exercise is probably one of the best things you can do to get your blood flowing and to clear your mind. Not to mention it will leave you feeling great afterward!

11. Talk to someone!

Letting things out to people is one of the best things to do. Keeping thoughts cooped up inside of your head can lead to you shutting people out and becoming more depressed. Opening up is one of the most beneficial things you can do.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
