9 Things To Get You Through Your Finals

Well folks, its that time of year again.

Finals week.

The dreadful time of the semester where we are all put to the final test, literally. Group projects, term papers, final exams, all loaded into one week of hell.

But now's not the time to let the stress get the best of you. With the right attitude and the right tools, you're guaranteed to make it past the finish line.

This is where I come in like the fairy-godmother I am to help you all out! At least that's the plan...

Here's a list of various websites and apps that I've practically fallen in love with and which have helped me survive this semester and will get me through finals week.

Sites for when you’re six hours into your study session & you just need to slow things down…

DoNothingFor2Minutes:

Sometimes, you just need two minutes to yourself to refocus. This site challenges users to sit back and do absolutely nothing for two minutes with soothing sounds and a relaxing view to look at. There's a timer on the screen that keeps track of how much time you have left, the trick? If you touch your keyboard or use your mouse the timer starts over.

Line:

This fun little site is simple, and maybe that's the beauty of it. By using your mouse, you can weave a line across your screen, in and out as the line grows longer. This is surprisingly soothing, and in the end you can see what your random twists and turns created.

WeaveSilk:

This interactive art platform has been my favorite discovery this year. You get to take colorful, flowing pieces of silk strands and turn them into beautiful works of art.

Calm:

Slightly similar to DoNothingFor2Minutes, but Calm provides you with a little more. You can choose from a two, five, 10, 15 or 20-minute meditation session, with dozens of beautiful and calming backgrounds to look at, each with their own soothing sounds.

For when you need that extra hand…

quizlet.com

This site has flashcards on everything! American history, political science, pretty much every class offered ever is on here. You can make your own flashcards or you can look up ones made by other students!

citationmachine.net

This beautiful, beautiful site has helped me with in-text citations and references. APA, MLA, anything you need to keep your sources in order!

Thesaurus:

Best way to up your essays is with this site here. Thesaurus is a great way to mix up your words for all of your papers this finals week.

Helpful Apps:

SelfControl: This app completely blocks access to distracting websites, email, anything on the internet. Just put the sites you want blocked on your blacklist and you're all set. So when you need to hunker down in the library you won't have any Facebook notifications to distract you!

Sworkit: This app that creates workout plans for you on the go! Don’t let finals get the best of you and your workout routine! The app offers anywhere from five to 60+ minutes of workouts that require no equipment. Healthy Body, healthy mind.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
