Spring break may be over but spring is just now kicking off. The days are getting warmer and the sun is staying out longer. Now all you need is a light jacket and some ideas for outdoor activities. There are plenty of things you can do to get you through the final bend of the semester. Here are just a few:
1. Attend a music festival.
Warm weather brings a great array of outdoor music concerts and festivals. A few of the big ones coming up are Coachella, Firefly and Warped Tour.
2. Drive around with your windows down and music blasting.
Nothing says warm weather quite like riding around town with your windows down and a killer playlist blasting. It’s a great way to kill a few hours while giving yourself a mental break.
3. Take a “staycation.”
Pick a town nearby and go on a quick day trip with your best friends. Make sure you do all of the great touristy thing you’ve never had the chance to try.
4. Build a fort in your backyard.
Remember when you were little and a blanket fort was the coolest escape from reality you could possibly have? Give adulthood a break and go back to that care-free world by making a blanket fort or upgrading to a tent in your backyard.
5. Have a beach bonfire.
There isn’t a much more quintessential spring/summer activity than a bonfire on the beach. Even if you aren’t at the beach, invite a group of your best friends, find some blankets and don’t forget the s’mores! Bonfires are great.
6. Cut up your old jeans and make yourself a new pair of shorts.
Looking for a useful DIY task? Round up all of your old jeans and find some sharp scissors. A few snips later, and you’ll have new shorts added to your wardrobe.
7. Go for a bike ride.
Instead of using your car to get to campus or meet your friends for brunch, round up a group of people and make an activity out of getting to/from wherever you’re headed. Plus it’s good for the environment!
8. Go on a hike.
Whether you’re looking to kill a few hours or get the perfect Instagram of your area’s landscape, you can never go wrong with a hike. Pack a blanket and some snacks, and you can double your hike with a picnic.
9. Take a nap outside.
Take full advantage of the nice weather and light breeze by taking a nap outside under a big tree. There will probably be a few birds out singing too so be sure to appreciate it their songs even if they prevent you from napping.
Remember: It’s easy to hit that second-half-of-the-semester slump, but many times, all you need is a little break to recharge your batteries. Some advice: get out and enjoy the sunshine. You deserve it!
