I've been at SU for three weeks now, and there have already been plenty of unexpected occurrences. I decided to ask some of my friends about the most unexpected parts of their college experiences thus far.

Katie, graphic design major

"Definitely how fast I found a group of friends. I was really nervous, but I found a great group and support system so quickly!"

Krit, film major

"The social scene! There's always something to do."

Ryan, sports management major

"You never know what to expect in the dining hall. Let's just say some days are better than others!"

Morgan, public health major

"I was very shocked to see that people already come into college with groups of friends."

Kayla, undeclared

"The workload. I didn't expect to be reading this much!"

Annalise, communication & rhetorical studies major

"Not being able to go to the bathroom without putting shoes on."

Jackson, film major

"How easy it was to adjust, and the enjoyable nature of classes. I feel more engaged and like I'm learning something that matters here."

Reid, public relations/finance dual major

"I was surprised with how easy it was to make friends here!"

And... me! (public relations major)

I did two weeks worth of reading thinking it was one day's worth of work. It was a rough night... at least I'm ahead!

I'm sure there will be plenty of other things that will happen to us over the next four years that nobody saw coming... but here's what's been going on so far! I was surprised by the variety of answers I got from others, yet a lot of them are also very similar. Interesting... here's to what's next!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
