9 Things College Students Forget To Be Thankful For

Thanksgiving shouldn't be the only day we're thankful.

1. The fact that we're college students

People all over the world could only hope to have an education like the one we receive here in the United States, and are willing to risk anything to get it. We often like to talk about how much we "hate" college, and want to drop out at the first whim of a challenge, but know we never will. It's easy to forget just how thankful we should be that we have the education we are receiving now.

2. A roof over our heads

Dorm life sucks, but a dorm could be the equivalent to a nice hotel to a homeless family, or people who have no choice but to call shacks their humble abode. Your bed is tiny and the people in your hall may be the biggest slobs you've ever met, but we have to remember how lucky we are just to have a roof over our heads.

3. Food readily avaiable with the swipe of an ID

Yes, dinning hall food isn't world class, but it's far better than going to bed, or waking up with nothing at all.

4. Our closest friends

Friends that you call family, that will be real with you whether you like it or not. We can't forget to thank them for being there for us, and be thankful we have this life to share with them.

5. Fresh, clean air to breathe

Something we take for granted easily. Keeping the air clean is important, and the fact that we have clean air is something we must remember to be thankful for.

6. Clothes on our bodies and shoes on our feet

We can spend countless dollars on new clothes, whether it's from our Greek organization or just from a shopping spree at the mall. Some people don't have the ability to do that, and hardly have a scrap of clothing to give them warmth. Instead of buying more clothes, we should try donating the clothes and shoes we never wear to those who could really need it.

7. Family who would do anything for us

Family is blood. They'll be there for you throughout the best and worst moments in life, and we have to remember they won't be there forever, so we have to make every moment special and treasured.

8. Freedom of speech

The fact that I can write this and not be persecuted for it is something I take for granted on the daily. We can say what we want when we want without worry we'll get in massive trouble for saying it. We have to use our freedom of speech, among other things, to benefit those who cannot speak.

9. Laughter

Laughter is so precious. Always remember to be thankful we can laugh without worry.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
