Beagles are vastly different from every other breed of dogs. They have an instinctual nature and a loving demeanor, but there are a few things they don't tell you when you welcome one into your family.
1. They don't bark, they HOWL
The first time I heard my beagle howl, I almost lost my hearing. It was so loud and piercing, it scared me half to death!
2. They have a mind of their own
Unless they're trained right from birth, they can be VERY headstrong. If you don't have food in your hand, expect to be giving commands to a wall.
3. They're brave-hearted
Beagles are fiercely protective. Once you form a bond with one, they'll go to the ends of the earth to make sure you're safe and okay.
4. They're extremely loyal
Again, once you create a bond with your beagle, he'll be your best friend for life. You've just received a nightly cuddle buddy, movie night partner, 2 extra pair of eyes to watch you while you use the bathroom, and definitely someone to eat whatever food you drop at the dinner table.
5. They shed, A LOT
Oh my goodness, the fur. There's so much fur from my beagle around the house that if I collected all of them, I could create three more beagles. Vacuuming and using a lint roller before you leave the house is a must when owning a beagle.
6. They're photogenic
I swear, beagles are some of the most photogenic dog breeds around. It's like they know the spotlight is on them, and they have to be ready for their closeup.
7. They have a hunter's dog mentality
They never stop sniffing, digging, searching, investigating, and so on and so forth. Every new space they go to MUST be sniffed from top to bottom, at least twice before they're satisfied.
8. They're extremely affectionate
When they've made sure you're the one, they will not stop smothering you with affection. Whether it's sleeping right on top of your head, laying on your lap while you're trying to do work, or sleeping by your feet; wherever you are, so is your beagle.
9. They have a heart of gold
Beagles can be a tough breed to own, but at the end of the day, there's no better feeling than the pure love and devotion of a beagle.
