Ah, Gainesville. Two hours from the beach, two hours from Orlando and two hours from Georgia. The city is extremely urban, but if you drive twenty minutes out, you're in the middle of nowhere. Who would want to grow up anywhere else? Here are nine signs you grew up in Gainesville.

1. Everything in your life has been based around the Gators.

Even though we're part of Alachua County Public Schools, we get Gator Homecoming off. Does it make sense? No, but it's been happening since the dawn of time.

2. You’ve been to the Florida Museum of Natural History at least five times.

It's a rite of passage to go on a field trip to the Florida Museum of Natural History. In elementary school, we probably go every year. If you want to get into the Butterfly Rainforest, though, you're going to have to come back another time with your parents.

3. You can’t even count how many times you’ve seen “Cinderella” and “The Wiz”.

You probably have a bunch of friends in it. It's always fun to see, though.

4. You feel like you know everybody in town.

When you go to the Oaks Mall, it's inevitable that you'll run into somebody who was in your class in first grade.

5. You hate when August rolls around.

All of a sudden, the streets are filled with college students. Don't even try to go to Target because you'll just end up in a maze of dorm items.

6. But May is, by far, the best month.

All of a sudden, the traffic clears up, and you can go downtown without being mauled by a group of sorority girls.

7. You hate going to Butler Plaza.

But you have to go there because it's where Target is.

8. You probably don't want to go to the University of Florida.

UF this, UF that. There are other schools out there, people.

9. And finally, you wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else.

Despite the craziness, Gainesville really is a great place to grow up.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
