9 Signs That It's Swap Season

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

9 Signs That It's Swap Season
Becca Miller

Ah, the year school year has started back and rush is over (bless up) and it's finally swap season. "Swaps", or as my mother said they were called back in the day: "mixers", are when a fraternity and sorority have a themed event together, usually at a bar. It's a fun way to meet new people and hangout with friends. So in honor of it being swap season, here are a few signs that it is upon us.

1. Snapchat

It's midnight on a Monday night and you see that you have so many snapchat stories to watch.. and all of them are from the same event. Ugh and then you start to watch one and you look at the clock and it's 12:30 and you've watched them all...oopss :/ You then realize you should be asleep and question what you're doing with your life. I mean what else would people be doing at midnight on a Monday night besides sleeping?? Oh right its swap season.

2. Seeing a group of people walking to and from Frat row (pre-games of course) on a random night all dressed weird.

3. Instagram

Scrolling through Instagram and seeing every. single. picture. of people dressed the same way and getting the feeling that you're left out, & then you realize that's not your sorority....

4. Glitter, glitter, and MORE GLITTER

Whether it's on your face, arms or legs, it's rare to go to a swap now and not see a single person have glitter on them. Something else we know all too real, the glitter bomb that explodes in the bathroom sinks....

5. Walking into an early morning and having half the class be absent....k

6. Seeing a girl walk around into a class with sunglasses on, an oversized sweatshirt on and last nights make up on at 2pm...

7. Costume Closet

Going home the weekend before and getting every costume, throwback clothes, and your old high school Cheerleading uniform. Trust me, sometimes it seems like you have more swap clothes than real clothes :/

8. Having your PC groupme only blow up when it's swap night

9. Memories

Talking about it for the next few days after it/ finding out who got sent to standards for what they did. Making some of your favorite memories from those nights and meeting some of your best friends at them.

If you don't love swap season, I don't know whats wrong with you. They're the best nights and little pieces of the weekend during the week.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
