Whether you're looking for something happy, sad, long or short, completed or still on air, there's something on the list for everyone this winter break.
1. Stranger Things
The Netflix original hit series is full of 1980s nostalgia and science-fiction horror. Following a group of young boys and their new telekinetic friend, the show has become a big hit and has made mini celebrities out of its young stars.
The first season is available to stream.
2. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
While the title may not be the most respectful to the main character, Rebecca Bunch is crazy, but in the best way. Her obsessive nature and anxious personality are annoying and endearing. Her not quite perfect body makes her look like a normal woman. And her tendency to see her life in a series of musical numbers is something I personally do on a daily basis.
The first season is available to stream and the second is currently siring on The CW.
3. Galavant
Another musical comedy, this one set in a fantasy world, Galavant is only 18 episodes long, making it perhaps the quickest watch on the list. Endlessly entertaining, this self procalimed "musical extraveganza" is full of funny characters, crazy storylines, and witty songs written by the Oscar-winning Disney composer, Alan Menken.
Both seasons are available to stream.
4. LOST
One of the most confusing and complicated shows ever, LOST started as a high concept, high budget pilot directed by JJ Abrams, quickly became the hit of the season. Full of so many questions, some that were never answered, trying to figure out the end is one of the best parts of watching this sci-fi thriller.
All six seasons are available to stream.
5. Once Upon a Time
From the writers of LOST, Once Upon a Time is a family show that takes place half in a fairy tale land and half in a fictional town in present day Maine. Emma Swan is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming sent as a baby to our world to break the spell placed on the inhabitants of Storybrooke (mostly versions of our favorite Disney characters), dooming them to a life with no happy endings.
Five seasons are available to stream and a sixth is currently airing Sundays on ABC.
6. Gilmore Girls
All seven seasons and the Netflix original spinoff are available to stream.
7. How I Met Your Mother
At some times hilarious, at others devastating, How I Met Your Mother is one of the most entertaining comedies of the new millennium. Is it a little bit too much like Friends sometimes? Sure. But this is a show with a through-line. We are going to learn how Ted meets his future wife. The end may have ben disappointing, but the journey was sure worth it.
All nine seasons are available to stream.
8. Grey's Anatomy
Part soap opera and part medical drama, only begin watching this long-running drama if you are prepared to laugh, gasp, but mostly cry. The show may have lost its way a little towards the middle of its run, but even when the drama with the doctors isn't compelling, the medical cases are constantly riveting. The surgeons of Seattle-Grace Hospital (now Grey-Sloan Hospital) have endured a bomb in a body, a shooting, and a plane crash, among other things. Not always realistic, but always entertaining, Grey's Anatomy is a long commitment, but totally worthwhile.
Twelve seasons are available to stream and the thirteenth is currently airing on ABC.
9. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
A quick two season comedy, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is quirky and clever. It is not the deepest show you'll ever see, but it never fails to entertain. Ellie Kemper's Kimmy is so positive, she'll make you think you can do anything you set your mind to. "End of Breakfast club" fist pump!
The first two seasons are available to stream.
