9 Fantasy Books For You To Check Out This Summer

There's nothing better than sitting down and reading a good book. A good book is one that keeps you up at night thinking about all the what-ifs, a good book is one that keeps you saying, only one more page as you finish the entire book that night. A good book is one that makes you get attach to the characters that they start to become like friends, and finally a good book is one that makes you happy, sad, or even mad.

1. Any of the Harry Potter Books by J.K. Rowling

Even if you have seen the movies, the books still make you sit on the edge of your seat. There are parts in the books that aren't in the movies, but when you read the book those parts in the movies will make more sense. All of your emotions will show when reading these books, you'll laugh, cry (maybe a lot), and smile. Also, it's always nice to revisit the Wizarding World and go on Harry's journey with him in 300 plus pages.

2. "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J. Maas

Thank goodness this is a series because it's a book that kept me turning the page and wanting to know what happens to the characters. It is one of those books where it is easy to fall in love with the characters, but to also hate some characters. You sometimes will question why a character did something, but then the next page you'll be so surprised about the plot twist you'll need a minute.

3. "Stolen: A Letter to My Captor" by Lucy Christopher

This book will defiantly mess with your emotions and even after you have finished it you, will still be confused and wondering what will happen next. Unfortunately for now this is not a series, but in a way ended how it should have.

4. "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

I thought this was the best book out of the whole series. Many people have probably already seen the movie, but again you'll be able to see more in the book than you did in the movie.

5. "Divergent" by Veronica Roth

The first book in the series seems to always be the best, "Divergent" is the best I think out of the trilogy. It is easy to follow the characters stories, which makes you want to find out what happens next, each time you turn the page. The book is so detailed it is easy to picture the characters and the scenery.

6. "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare

This is one of those books where it is easy to start loving the characters as soon as you start reading. There is a movie, but trust me it doesn't do it justice, the book is definitely better. This is a series that consist of six books, but to be honest after the third book it gets a little hard to keep following along because there is so much detailed in each book. However, "City of Bones" is still the best out of this series.

7. "The Red Queen" by Victoria Aveyard

This is the first book in the series, which is still having books published. Once again it is easy to fall in the love with the characters and the whole plot of the story. I think when I read this book I finished it pretty quickly because each time I read a sentence there was always something new that stood out to me and made me wonder what would happen next.

8. "A Thousands Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini

Like "Stolen" this book will also make you have many emotions. There are points when reading the book you might feel a little angry and sad for the characters. However, you feel like you are walking along with them during their journey while reading.

9. "The Heretic Queen" by Michelle Moran

This is a historical fiction book that takes place in Egypt during the times of the Pharaohs. It follows the story of Nefertari who has to figure out her way in the world of royalty after her family history is well known throughout Egypt.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
