With the mess that seems to be encompassing our world, it's time to focus on some good things that have been happening recently. The world is not all bad, but it can definitely feel that way sometimes. Here's a list of nine stories that make you gain a little more faith in humanity.

1. 5,000 bikes are being sent to places hit by the recent hurricanes.

5,000 bikes that were left after the Burning Man festival in Nevada are being given new homes all over the planet. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds in order to get the bikes where they need to go. There are many volunteers putting their time and effort into making sure the bikes are in working condition and go where they are needed.

2. Milwaukee's parking meters help house the homeless.

There are parking meters in Milwaukee that are specifically meant for buying houses for the homeless. 100 percent of the profits made from these meters go to the "key to change" organization that helps homeless people find housing and get back on their feet. Since 2015, 225 homeless have found permanent housing through this program.

3. Millionaire open his home to 70 foster kids that have nowhere to go after being hit by hurricane Irma.

70 foster kids had been staying in a rescue shelter without proper showers after hurricane Irma hit them in Florida. After hearing this, a couple decided to open up their $30 million home to these kids. The couple has done everything they can to turn something bad into good and make this easier on the children.

4. Celebrities post pictures from their childhood to raise money for hurricane victims.

Stephen Colbert and Nick Kroll promise that for every celebrity that posts a picture of themselves pre-puberty they will donate money towards hurricane relief programs in Puerto Rico. Many celebrities have gotten in on the project including people like Jimmy Fallon and Reese Witherspoon.

5. Man volunteers to cuddle with babies in the ICU when their parents can't be there.

At Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, there is one special volunteer who has coined the name "ICU grandpa." He spends his time holding and rocking babies in the NICU while their parents can't be there. Many people have relied on him for support and he has become a staple of the NICU.

6. California is the 1st state to ban pet stores from selling non-rescue animals.

California lawmakers take a stand against animal mills by making it illegal for stores to sell non-rescue pets. If a store is found selling animals from mills they will be fined $500. It is such a good way to give displaced pets a home.

7. Stranger gives back wallet with $1,500 to its original owner.

A kid walking in a neighborhood stumbled across a wallet in a driveway with a major chunk of cash in it. He went up to the house to return it and no one answered so he held it up to the security camera for proof and set it on the doorstep.

8. Children at the University of Iowa's hospital get to watch the football games from their rooms.

University of Iowa's children's hospital was intentionally built overlooking the football stadium so that kids could watch the game from the hospital. It has become a tradition to have the fans wave to the kids from the stadium. It's such a special way to give the kids a warm welcome and make their stay a little bit easier.

9. A determined second grader wants to use her lemonade stand money to pay off her school district's lunch debt.

In Idaho, a little girl decided to start a lemonade stand to raise money towards paying off the lunch debt in her school district. They started a GoFundMe page that has been gaining a lot of publicity since it was created. It's so sweet to see kids who are determined to make a difference.

Hopefully these stories made your day a little better. Do not lose faith in the world, good things are still happening!!

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
