With so many films and shows constantly being released, it's hard to see them all. We typically gravitate towards mainstream favorites, so we don't typically don't end up watching the lesser talked about ones. There are so many wonderful hidden gems if you just take the time to look.
1. Begin Again
A 2014 drama about the music industry, "Being Again" is a movie everyone should watch. The cast includes names such as Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, James Corden, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Hailee Steinfeld. (Netflix)
2. The Dressmaker
"The Dressmaker" is a 2016 comedy starring Kate Winslet as a well-traveled fashion designer who comes home to Australia to learn the truth about an unsolved mystery from her childhood in regards to the death of a classmate. (Amazon Prime)
3. Friends from College
A 2017 Netflix original, the totally binge-worthy 8 episode comedy follows a group of friends as they reunite 20 years after graduating from Harvard together. Where these friends go, adventure always follows. (Netflix)
4. The Imitation Game
A 2014 drama thriller starring Benedict Cumberbatch, "The Imitation Game" is loosely based on the story of Alan Turing, a mathematician who helped crack the Enigma during World War II. (Netflix)
5. Margin Call
While a bit older, this 2011 drama about the 2008 financial crisis is a great watch for anyone interested in business. It follows a 24-hour period at an investment firm leading up to the downfall, and the film stars Zachary Quinto, Stanley Tucci, and Kevin Spacey.
6. Master of None
This Netflix original comedy series first aired in 2015, and the second season released this year. It stars Aziz Ansari as a struggling actor trying to figure out life while dealing with racial stereotypes. (Netflix)
7. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
This is a 2016 comedy starring Tina Fey as a journalist covering the war in Afghanistan. Other notable actors in the film include Margot Robbie and Martin Freeman. (Amazon Prime)
8. Spare Parts
A 2015 drama starring George Lopez, "Spare Parts" is based on a true story about an inexperienced high school underwater robotics team who decides to compete against some of the best schools in the country.
9. London Has Fallen
"London Has Fallen" is a 2016 crime drama that surrounds a terror attack after the death of a world leader. Gerard Butler stars as a Secret Service Agent who finds himself solely in charge of keeping the United States president alive and free. The film also stars Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart. (Netflix)
While there are plenty of other great films and shows to watch, these are just a few I've come across recently. These just go to show that you should always look beyond mainstream media!
