9 Jamming Albums Of 2017
Nicholas Green

What's better than music? New music, or at least recorded breaking music. This year was packed with surprises, debut albums from new artists and former artists along with new albums from previous top-charting artists. Billboard provides a GREAT list of 50 albums that I discussed below, so without further a do, here her nine worthy listening album you need to check ASAP.

1. "Melodrama" Lorde

Released June 16th, Lorde's second album focuses more on herself and we also get Lorde dancing in a crazy yet awesome way. Let's be honest, we have all danced in our own room at one point like Lorde. She produced the album and wrote alongside Jake Antonoff. Some songs to listen to: "Liability", "Homemade Dynamite" and "Sober". Lorde's album is up for album of the year at the 2018 Grammy's.

FUN FACT: Lorde's first single "Green Light" leaped from no. 100 to no. 19 on the billboard charts, one of the largest leaps.

2. "More Life" Drake

With his tenth release in just nine years, all 22 of its track hit the BillBoard hot 100 chart, with 2 songs being extra hits that brought his one week record to a breaking 24 chart entries. It was also his seventh consecutive No. 1 album which tied with Kanye West and Eminem for most top charting albums. With Drake continuously breaking records, what more can we expect? (Hopefully another album ASAP),

3. "Damn" Kendrick Lamar

Ranked as the no. 1 best album on billboard's website, Lamar's album was released April 14th, earning his third no. 1 album on billboard's 200 chart making it the biggest debut of 2017 after dethroning Drake's 2017 album. Lamar is up for 7 Grammy nominations in 2018. Songs to jam: "HUMBLE", "PRIDE" and "XXX".

4. "4:44" Jay Z

With the release of his 13th studio album, Jay Z takes to his album after his infidelity to Beyoncè to voice his failures as a husband and father. His album has been rewarded with eight Grammy nominations, including his first nomination for album of the year. Some songs to take a listen too: "Moonlight", "The Story Of O.J." and "4:44".

5. Harry Styles self-title debut album

After a succesful five years in One Direction and his film debut "Dunkrik", Styles has turned his pop-era into rock-era. With inspiration from Beatles, Florence and the Machine and David Bowie songs, Styles debut album was a force to be reckoned with. His album earned him a no. 1 spot on Billboard's 200 albums chart.

I love every song on his album but three must listen songs: "Kiwi", "Meet Me in the Hallway" and of course, "Sign of the Times".

6. "Rainbow" Kesha

With her excruciating, long-fought battle with her mentor and abuser, Kesha's third album focused on inspiration about empowerment, determination and refusal to be brought down. With her debut single "Praying", Kesha has earned her first ever Grammy nominations in her career. She's nominated for best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album.

7. "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1" Calvin Harris

With an album full of featured artists, Harris' music is electro-funk to pop-era songs. His first single "Slide" featured Frank Ocean, Quavo and Offset from Migos. Harris' fifth studio album debuted at no. 2 on Billboard's hot 200 chart which was the highest debut for Harris. Other funky singles: "Rollin", "Feels" and "Heatstroke".

8. "American Teen" Khalid

With Khalid's debut album landing him the number nine spot on the Billboard 200, his album was certified platinum come October 2017. His lead single "Location" peaked at 16 on the hot 100, following was "Young Dumb & Broke and "Saved". Khalid is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2018 Grammy's.

9. "Reputation" Taylor Swift

Talk about a plot twist for Swift's previous album, she releases a more revengeful side on her album. With her single "Look What You Made Me Do" addressing her former selves, she sold over 1.216 million copies in the US alone within the first week of her album being released on November 10th. Her album was not able to gain any Grammy nominations due to the cut-off dates for the Grammy's.

FUN FACT: Taylor's sixth studio album is 2017's best-selling album in the country.

2017 was FILLED with music, and recorded breaking hits, artists, etc. Without music, what else could we all enjoy?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
