Let's talk about peer advisors, AKA the superheroes to the freshmen on campus. Working with freshmen studies has probably been the best experience I've ever had, and it definitely has its perks.
Here are the top nine:
1. Getting Paid to Eat Food and Hang Out
You literally get paid to be friends with your freshmen students. Whether that means going to the tratt or a campus event, the quality time you spend with your students not only means fun but also means a paycheck. It's truly the best job anyone could ask for.
2. Getting Cool Seton Hall Apparel
We all know that we all freaked over the quarter zips and the scarfs. Don't deny it.
3. Icebreakers
We know the freshmen hate it, but we love them, especially when we're participating in them. Ships and Sailors or Huggy Bear get's way too competitive...but we love every second of it.
4. Dancing During Pirate Adventure/Open House
Working the main gate is probably the most fun anyone can ever have. Bumping music and waving to people with smiling faces as they come on campus is one of the biggest perks of working with Freshmen Studies.
5. Camp
"No fraternizing with the employees." Even though you couldn't be caught talking to the camp counselors, we all still had so much fun climbing walls and playing volleyball with one another - making memories we will never forget (not to mention witnessing Christian's first s'more!).
6. The Memes
There's no doubt that the PA group chat always gives you a good laugh after a long day (especially during that one debrief). There's never a dull moment amongst all of us, that's for sure.
7. Experience
You know that this is going to go on all of your future applications. It's perfect for any resume, which is certainly a perk, no doubt.
8. Working With Your Best Friends
We all have bonds with one another that cannot be broken, all thanks to being a PA. Having awesome coworkers makes a "job" feel like pure fun!
9. Helping People
At the end of the day, all of the materialistic perks doesn't top the fact that we each get to help people. Whether that be just to find where your student's class is or helping them through a hard time, nothing beats the feeling of making someone's first year as simple as possible.
Nothing tops working in Freshmen Studies at Seton Hall, and it's all because of the people and the interactions we have with others.
