9 Current Events That Are Far More Important Than Kylie Jenner's Rumored Pregnancy
@vladyart

Wait. Hold on. Are you reading what I'm reading? Kylie Jenner...PREGNANT? Do you think it's true? It can't be. But what if she really is? No matter what the answer may be, the only response I have is that I simply do not care. Kylie Jenner's proclaimed pregnancy has made a much greater appearance in our society's "current events" and "breaking news" headlines than the world's most important happenings. The rumored pregnancy of 20-year-old social media guru has overshadowed world events that truly deserve our full attention. Here is just a glimpse of the headlines you've looked over while searching for the baby bump underneath all her baggy t-shirts.

1. Hurricane Maria After Math In Puerto Rico - Upcoming Months With No Power.

After Puerto Rico's devastating encounter with Hurricane Maria, the U.S. territory may be facing many months of no electricity until power can be fully restored. The loss of power caused by Hurricane Maria will definitely affect every other variable crucial for sustainable living requirements such as water supply, food preservation, and temperature acclimation. These factors can possibly lead to a significant rise in the number of deaths since the last record.

2. NFL Players Taking The Knee vs. President Donald Trump

On September 23, 2017, President Donald Trump sent out a series of tweets insisting that

"If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU'RE FIRED. Find something else to do!"

Ever since the President of the United States criticized the NFL players for peacefully protesting during the National Anthem, many other NFL teams decided to do the same. They kneeled down interlocking arms with one another as the National Anthem played, shining a light on their unbreakable unity.

3. Frida And Her Praise Worthy Efforts Post-Earthquake in Mexico.

Mexico City was tragically hit by an Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 this month, resulting in the death of more than 300 individuals, the demolishment of dozens of buildings, and large areas of land underwater. Frida, a seven-year-old Labrador Retriever, deployed by the Mexcian Navy, was sent out in her goggles and boots in a reliable effort to search for bodies stuck beneath all the rubble. So far, throughout her career, she has detected over 50 bodies, some dead and others alive.

4. The NFL Isn't Alone - The NBA Is Also Standing Up Against President Trump.

The President of the United States has been described as creating more of a divide amongst the people rather than a sense of unity. Shortly before criticizing the NFL players through Twitter, Trump also slammed Steph Curry for "hesitating" on the invitation to the White House. LeBron James also weighed in on the situation by tweeting back at Trump saying,
"U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!"

The way one tweets, is the same way one thinks. Trump's tweets are a reflection of his priorities and many individuals feel that his priorities are not in check with a President's duties.

5. The Continuously Growing Unhealthy Relationship Between North Korea and The United States.

Not only is Nuclear War the only threat, but so is North Korea's cyber attack operations. Such cyber attack operations can pose dangers to the United States as the attackers can possibly gain access to power by taking over aircraft control towers and stealing identities in order to maneuver their way through various bank accounts.

6. Trump Administration - New Travel Restrictions.

As of September 25, 2017, The Trump Administration revised the travel ban they announced earlier this year by adding eight more countries to the list. Two of the eight restricted countries added were North Korea and Venezuela. While these two countries were added, Sudan was dropped.

7. Terrorist Attack In Barcelona, Spain.

This past August, Barcelona experienced a terrorist attack in one of the city's most iconic cosmopolitan areas known as La Rambla Promenade. There has been recorded 13 killed and over 100 individuals injured from different parts of the world. Fear of terrorist attacks has continued to grow.

8. The Republican Effort To Repeal and Replace Obamacare.

As of September 24, 2017, Ted Cruz (Republican) stands against the Senate GOP's latest bill to repeal Obamacare. The Republicans have until September 30th to scramble 51 votes for Obamacare to successfully be repealed. If it is repealed, however, millions of people will be left without any form of coverage.

9. Climate Change.

Warm ocean water is to a Hurricane like fuel is to a fire. With the ocean water rising in temperature, the hurricanes that come our way only get bigger and stronger. Not only has our ocean temperatures risen an average of 2 degrees Fahrenheit over the last century, sea levels have also risen about 7 inches. If climate change isn't taken seriously, then Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria may just have been a sneak peak of potential future storms to come.

The fact that when one types in "today's breaking news" in his or her search engine, the first article that pops up has to do with Kylie Jenner's rumored pregnancy, is absolutely ridiculous. The media has shined a brighter light on Jenner's name over an alleged rumor, rather than on facts that impact our society as a whole. The headline "Kylie Jenner, 20, is pregnant" is ranked with the same importance as "US Boosting Surveillance Amid Russian Threats in Syria" and "Why The German Elections Matter To the Rest of The World". This is not okay.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
