8 Ways You Can Help The Victims Of Hurricane Harvey
Wired

Hurricane Harvey has left thousands of Texans stranded and in need of basic necessities such as food, shelter, clothes, and water.

Here's a list of ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey:

1. American Red Cross

Donations can be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, by texting the word HARVEY to 90999, or by visiting redcross.org. The minimum donation accepted is $10.

If you're interested in volunteering to support Hurricane Harvey efforts visit: redcross.org/volunteer

2. Global Giving

"Hurricane Harvey has caused widespread, catastrophic flooding and damage in Texas and along the Gulf Coast. This fund will provide relief to survivors in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance to help residents recover and rebuild. All donations to this fund will exclusively support local relief and recovery efforts from this storm"

Visit globalgiving.org to donate.

3. Texas Diaper Bank

The Texas Diaper Bank is providing countless families with supplies for their children. Select "disaster relief" when making your donation at texasdiaperbank.networkforgood.com

4. Donate Blood

If you're in the area affected by the flood, please consider donating blood. You can donate blood with The American Red Cross, Carter BloodCare, and South Texas Blood and Tissue.

5. Austin Pets Alive

Austin Pets Alive has been working with animal shelters in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, because of this they are in need of funding, fosters, and adoptions.

Donations can be made online at austinpetsalive.org

If you are close to the area, consider fostering an animal so that Austin Pets Alive can shelter as many animals affected by the hurricane as possible. If you are unable to foster, a list of materials needed can be found here.

6. Portlight

Portlight is an organization that helps those with disabilities affected by natural disasters. For more information and to donate, visit: portlight.org

7. Airbnb

Airbnb is waving fees for those who were affected by Hurricane Harvey (August 23- September 1). If you can offer a place or even just a room for those affected to stay, please visit airbnb.com

8. Pray

If you're unable to donate, there is still so much you can do. Even taking a few minutes out of your day to pray for those that were affected by the hurricane will be such a blessing.

"'Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security." Jeremiah 33:6 NIV

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
