It's that time of year again. The end of the semester is drawing near, along with final exams and last-minute assignments. It's easy to get caught up in it all, and lose the motivation to finish out good. It's that time when you just want to give up, and stay in bed forever. The last three weeks of school are the hardest, as it seems May is taking its precious time, while due dates are not. The final days of school are so close, if we just tough it out. Here are a few ways to get over that end-of-semester slump.
1. Get A Good Night's Sleep.
Procrastinating usually leads to late nights, even though we have early mornings. It's important to get at least 8 hours of sleep, so you don't feel sluggish the next morning. Too little sleep adds on to the lack of motivation!
2. Organize!
A good way to keep up with all your assignments and tests is to buy a planner, and record all the due dates. It helps your eyes to see what needs to be done. This way, you will be less likely to forget about something! Another good example would be to create daily "To-Do Lists". It feels awesome when you can check something off that has been completed!
3. Schedule A Weekend To Get Away.
Take a weekend off to spend some time with friends. Whether it's just a weekend of adventures, or a planned trip to the beach, anything is better than being stuck on campus. Take this time to get a little breather before you have to hop back into schoolwork. The trip will also motivate you to get all the work that's due the next week done before that weekend.
4. Have A Vent Session.
Being able to talk to your friends about your worries/fears/problems can help tremendously. Take a few hours to sit down with a friend, and take turns venting with each other.
5. Get Into A New Hobby To Take Your Mind Off Things.
When you start feeling the "slump" and can't focus anymore, take a break to do something that you're passionate about or something that relaxes you. I have gotten into the habit of coloring in adult coloring books (above picture). It really helps when I start feeling stressed out.
6. Make Time To Reflect.
In the midst of the chaos, we forget about the things that make us happy. Take a moment to text a friend and tell them how grateful you are for them. Talk to your parents and tell them how much you love them. Take some "Me Time" to relax.
7. Space Out Your Assignments.
Don't stress yourself out even more by trying to complete all your assignments in one seating. Take short breaks to give yourself a breather.
8. Pat Yourself On The Back.
When you hand in that last assignment, and complete your last exam, give yourself a treat and a pat on the back! You made it! Summer is right around the corner!
