Learning how to take care of yourself is the best investment you can make. It can also be one of the hardest. We are humans and that means we are flawed, but that should be more reason to learn how to show yourself some love. While you can never achieve perfection, you can always keep growing. Here are eight tips that could help along the way.

  1. Invest in fuzzy socks or a fuzzy blanket.

Okay but seriously have you ever curled up with a fuzzy blanket and socks at the end of a long day. It is so comforting. This can also give you a chance to relax and unwind after a particularly taxing day. Bonus points if you add a little tea to the mix.

2. Read a book

Reading is not only an escape; it is also the perfect way to exorcise and expand your mind.

3. Try something new

Getting out of your comfort zone may seem stressful but it can be beneficial to your overall heath. By broadening your horizons, you are also investing in your long-term health and allowing your brain to focus on something fun and new.

4. Turn off your phone and enjoy the world

We have a new scary attachment to our phones and sometimes when you’re stressed and needing a recharge it is nice to be able to unplug and enjoy the world around you. Bonus points if you unplug and go enjoy the outdoors.

5. Go on a hike

Speaking of the great outdoors. There is nothing more relaxing than going outside and connecting with nature. This can be done with a friend too. That way you get to know another person more and you can destress and connect with your surroundings.

6. Crank up the tunes and dance

If there is anything my mother has taught me it’s that there are very few problems a little dance break can’t solve. So, turn up the tunes and let loose! Bonus points if you slide around in the fuzzy socks from the first tip!

7. Exercise and eat healthy

This is the one I personally struggle with the most. I know getting to the gym and skipping chipotle doesn't seem fun. Just remember; your body is a temple and you are the God/Goddess it was built for. So, take care of yourself.

8. Listen to Your Body.

Your body knows what’s best for it. So, when you’re tired; sleep. When you’re thirsty; drink some water. When you’re hungry; grab yourself some food.

At the end of the day you are the one who must wake up with you every morning. Make sure that you are happy with the person you are waking up to. We live in a fast-moving world but it is okay to stop, smell the flowers and make sure you are okay. Many of us spend so much time taking care of others that we forget we are also important. Treat yourself well and the rest will fall into place.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
