8 Ways Your Best Friend Is Actually Your Mom

There are two women who you simply cannot live without that have made a huge impact on your life: your mother and your best friend. Being away at school can be tough, but in a lot of ways, it's hard to miss your mom; often times, your best friend stands in as your mother figure. Whether you realize it or not, your BFF acts like your mom more than you think. Here is a list of ways your best friend is actually your mom:

1. She pushes you to make good decisions.

Both your mom and your best friend want what’s best for you. They are the force pushing you to make better choices when you are in a time of doubt. When you really don’t feel like going to class, your best friend is that one person that will convince you to go. When she can tell you’ve had one too many, she’ll be the first to cut you off.

2. She is your biggest fan.

Like your mom, your best friend is always rooting you on. Even if it’s an accomplishment as small as wearing jeans to class, (which actually is a lot harder than it sounds), she’s there cheering for you and boosting you up. She’s the first to congratulate you when you pass that big test and she showers you with compliments.

3. She's your own personal nurse.

I think I speak for all of us when I say the service at the university’s clinic isn’t 4-star quality. Nothing is worse than being sick at school without your mom taking care of you. That’s when the best friend steps in. From delivering you endless amounts of orange juice to checking up on you hourly, your best friend is your mom away from home. She takes care of you with a certain maternal instinct that makes you wonder if she actually has kids somewhere.

4. She has your back through every mishap.

No matter what mistakes you make, your best friend will have your back. Much like your mom, your best friend will always be your support system even when they don’t agree with you. Your best friend is always loyal to you, just like your real momma.

5. She makes sacrifices for you.

Maybe the sacrifices she makes aren’t as major as the ones your real mom has made for you, but your BFF does a lot for you. Even when she has a huge test the next day, she’ll stay up late listening to you vent. Even though she hasn’t worn that super cute crop top yet, she’ll let you wear it first, AND post an Instagram in it. Talk about sacrifice…

6. She knows you better than anyone else.

Just like your mom, your best friend knows you like the back of her hand. She can read your every mood. She knows to order Domino’s before you even mention wanting pizza. That’s friendship.

7. You can tell her anything in the world.

You can bet that any secret you tell your mom will be taken to the grave. This type of trust is comparable to that of you and your BFF. Your best friend will guard your secrets just like your mom.

8. She is never going anywhere.

You know that third “F” in BFF? That stands for “forever.” Whether she likes it or not, your best friend is bound to you for life. She’s stuck with you, just like your mom is. Through thick and thin, it is these women who will be with you forever.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
