A few days ago, I strolled through the grocery store aisles looking for anything vegan and holiday-themed to satisfy my Christmas cravings. Lo and behold, I spotted vegan eggnog in the dairy-free section. Never before had I seen a vegan version of the confusing drink [what even is eggnog?], but I decided to give it a go. Let's say -- it was interesting. But now, I have this newfound interest in finding other holiday 'nogs to fill my fridge with and share with other plant-based friends. Here's a quick list of vegan eggnog brands and recipes to try before Santa comes in a couple weeks:
1. Silk Nog
I had to start this list with the first vegan eggnog I tried -- Silk's Nog. Dairy-free and stamped with the wonderful vegan emblem, this eggnog is simple, yet tasty, and perfect for vegan eggnog newbies.
2. Califia Farms Holiday Nog
This nog is soy and gluten-free for people with the utmost of allergies. "Maybe you can even meet your sweetheart under the mistletoe while sipping a glass of your new favorite nog," Califia Farms describes on their website.
3. SO Delicious Holiday Nog
SO Delicious has a range of holiday-themed and dairy-free milk. From pumpkin spice to the classic nog, the various coconut milk-based drinks are perfect for any holiday meal or late-night treat. Make Hot Toffee Nog by heating the nog with cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla and coconut oil -- yum!
4. MALK Pecan MALK Nog
There's no mistaking that this is one of the best nogs on the market. MALK's holiday drink is cold-pressed with one of the shortest [and purest] ingredient lists I have yet to see. Added bonus -- looks great for Instagram pictures.
5. Cashew Nog
Up for a challenge? Try to make your own vegan nog with a combo of cashews, spices, and dates. This recipe from The Roasted Root is paleo, vegan and refined-sugar free!
6. 3 Vegan Nogs
Hot For Food is one of my favorite vegan Youtube channels because of its versatile and unique recipes. Here are three vegan holiday drinks, including a boozy Bailey's nog, to test out.
7. Raw Vegan Nog
This healthy blender recipe includes only eight ingredients and can be made in your home! You can even make your own raw almond milk by blending almonds with water.
8. Vegan Peppermint Nog
Add a sweet taste to your nog by tossing in a few peppermint leaves or drops of mint extract into the mix. "It is a cross between the best tasting smoothie I’ve ever tried and the eggnog I used to drink as a child. I’ll take it!" blogger from Oh She Glows said.
Have a sweet holiday filled with plenty of nog!
