8 Thoughts That Never Crossed Your Mind As Being "Normal" Until College
Emily Weisenberger

College changes a person in more ways than you'd expect. It changes how they think and their idea of what "normal" really is. I find myself looking back on how differently my mind worked before my college life began. College brings out the best in us...or maybe not. Here's some things that simply don't matter to me anymore now that I'm in this part of my life.

1. "Eating alone is no big deal."

Before college, eating alone was a fear of mine. I never wanted to be "that" person sitting there, alone, in front of tons of people you've never seen before, eating a stupid amount of calories. Now, the act of eating alone doesn't phase me one bit.

2. "I don't really NEED makeup today."

Three years ago, you would never catch me leaving the house without a decent amount of eye makeup and foundation. Now, NOT wearing making is the new norm.

3. "I wear a size medium t-shirt, but I want an XL"

I never understood the "bum" look until I started college. Now, the bum look makes perfect sense to me. Comfort is of utmost importance to me, and of course, hiding any extra winter weight I may have put on.

4. "Why do I feel 10 pounds heavier after eating ONE cookie?"

In high school, I could eat like a 350-pound linebacker and still maintain a weight I was happy with. Now, pigging out is not an option. One cookie and I am full of regret.

5. "I really have no idea where all my money went."

Before college life was practically expense free. Between Netflix, books, groceries and of course, rent, the money seems to disappear into thin air before it even hits your bank account.

6. "A four-hour nap is completely normal"

College is exhausting in every way possible. It's the best excuse to nap for hours.

7. "I could totally sleep in public right now and be completely okay with it."

That awkward time between classes can give you some crazy ideas, like sleeping on the couch in the nearest campus studying area. We've all at least thought about this!

8. "DOGGO!"

Dogs on a college campus are pretty rare, so of course, we're going to take advantage of any dog petting opportunity we get. I may not know the dog

Higher education does not only fill your mind with new and important knowledge but new thoughts on how life should be. If you haven't figured this out already, in college, there is no "normal".

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
