8 Things I Didn't Realize I Missed Until I Came Back Home

The things I took for granted.

8 Things I Didn't Realize I Missed Until I Came Back Home
Howard Cundey

As of today, I've only been home from college for a solid 24 hours, but coming home made me realize that I missed things I didn't even know I missed. Here's just a few of them:

1. 2-ply toilet paper

It's really a luxury.

2. FREE LAUNDRY

And the best part is that my mom does it for me!

3. Being able to eat breakfast at any point in the day.

Sometimes I want an omelet and pancakes at 3pm, and sometimes I want tater tots at 2am. A fixed breakfast schedule of 8:30-10am does not cut it for me.

4. Having my own bathroom.

Finally, I can shower in a place where there's no one else's hair stuck to the walls and poop with the door open!

5. Being able to walk around naked without judgment.

This right here is the definition of freedom.

6. Always having food at your fingertips.

Shout out to my family for stocking up the fridge before I got back. All this food will be gone in a maximum of 3 days.

7. Not having to worry about academic responsibilities.

Now I can sleep in until 2p.m. without being disappointed in myself for not waking up early to study.

8. Not being confined to the walls of my campus.

My college campus is in the middle of nowhere and honestly, if I were to walk ten feet outside of it, I wouldn't be able to tell you were I was. When I step outside of my house, I immediately see civilization, and that's something I never thought I had taken for granted.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
