The countdown has begun. It's actually crazy to believe that my days as a freshman at Temple University are now numbered.
Fortunately, I can proudly say I have made the best decision in choosing Temple as my home away from home. The environment, the people, and the education have all exceeded my college expectations.
My constant homesickness has definitely faded. Going home almost feels unnatural at this point, even though in just two weeks I'll be there for the next four months.
At this point, I can definitely speak for all of us in saying that Temple has become our home. Here are a list of things I'll definitely be missing this summer.
1. J&H.
When I walked into my dorm on move-in day, I almost cried. I could not believe the size of my room or the fact I would be sharing it with another person. It made me nervous. About eight months later, J&H has become one of my favorite places on campus. Living here took away the responsibility of cleaning a bathroom every week and having to cook my own food. The best choice I ever made was selecting a dorm with the dining hall attached.
2. Cosi.
Besides waiting 30 minutes for a salad, I love Cosi. I go there at least three times per week, and although it's nothing like Panera, it does the job. I'll miss their bread the most.
3. My roommate.
Until this year, I had my own room, own bathroom, and own space for 18 years. I was now forced to share a box-sized room with my roommate, Sammie. Now it's weird to even think about waking up in an empty room. I'll definitely miss our late-night talks and 2000's playlist jam sessions.
4. The gym.
Though I am paying thousands to even attend Temple, it kind of feels like I have a free gym membership. Here we have access to three different gyms (STAR is my favorite) and unlimited classes, meanwhile at home certain memberships are required for extra things.
5. Not paying for gas.
I have never walked so much in my life. Coming from a small town, I drive almost everywhere there. Which also means paying for gas. It costs about $25 to fill up my car, and that definitely adds up on a broke college student.
6. Being walking distance to my friends.
Speaking of walking, I can walk to any of my friend's dorms or appartments here. Once I'm at home, it could take me up to two hours just to hangout with them.
7. Philly Style.
I've never had pizza like Philly Style. Not only are they across the street from me, but they're a convenient $2.50 meal at 2 AM when all you want is pizza. It's still not better than Jersey pizza though.
8. Freedom.
Being at Temple has taught me time management and independence. Here, I do what I want, whenever I please. But when I'm at home, I need to let my parents know where I'm going, what I'm doing, etc. I'll definitely have to readjust to being at home and constantly being in touch with my parents.
