Being both Hispanic and American comes with many different advantages... but also disadvantages. Food, for example, is one of our main advantages-- endless empanadas and insane amounts of rice and beans, it really is a beautiful thing. There are disadvantages... and by disadvantages I mean Americans asking you annoying questions like to say "hola" and if you eat tacos every night (only on Tuesdays). But here is a short list of a few things us mudbloods know to be true.
1. "You don't really look Spanish!"
And you don't look American so please leave.
2. When you start to pensar en two idiomas at the same tiempo.
Um, que? Confusing myself.
3. "So are you like... fluent? Say something!"
"Hola"?
4. So many different types of food. So little time.
Empanadas and rice and beans? Yes, please. Country fried steak and mashed potatoes? Yes, please.
5. Dance moves might be questionable. Depends on the situation.
Some nights it's Shakira, other nights 'white dad at block party' takes over.
6. Who is that? My cousin? Your cousin? Our second cousin?
So. Many. Family. Members. And why are they all named Maria?
7. Telenovelas are so much better than any American show.
The dramatic zooming in. The love triangles. The drama. It's addicting, you can't help it.
8. Your Latin sass gets you what you want. And you work it.
No one questions the sass. Ever.
