As a college student, it is important to take advantage of the resources your university provides. Sam Houston State University offers a plethora of fantastic services that SHSU students may utilize. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that many Bearkats are not aware of the fantastic services SHSU offers. Because of this, I have listed a handful of student services below, in no particular order. Some of these services may not be well known to students, so check them out if you have the chance!

1. The Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center (ASC) offers reading, writing, and math tutoring to both SHSU students as well as residents of the community at no charge. The ASC also provides Supplemental Instruction in a variety of other subjects. From English to Statistics, the Academic Success Center is here to help you! 2. Student Money Management Center

The Student Money Management Center (SMMC) is a great service offered to students! You can schedule a personal consultation with a professional if you have financial questions. The SMMC can help you understand your financial aid package, learn how to build credit, and even help students understand how to pay back loans. This is truly a top notch service! 3. Career Services

Career Services is something each and every student should take advantage of! They can conduct mock interviews, help with resumes and cover-letters, as well as help you determine which careers best fit your personality. Career Services also hosts Job Fairs on campus. Take advantage of this awesome service!

4. Student Health Center

This is an invaluable resource. Let's face it, at some point, you will get sick while at school. Having the health center just steps away is such a blessing! To make an appointment, call this number: (936) 294-1805.

5. The Counseling Center

The fact that SHSU offers this service to students is astounding. This service is something so many more students should take advantage of. It is located on the second floor of the Student Health Center. To schedule an appointment, call the Counseling Center at (936) 294-1720.

6. Recreational Sports

Hitting the gym is such a great way to get rid of stress! Not only do I love the gym, I love the group fitness classes. From Zumba to yoga, group fitness classes has something for everyone. Keep in mind that you need to buy a group fitness pass I you'd like to attend group fitness classes. The passes cost $45 a semester, but if you purchase a pass within the first week of school, it is only $35!

7. Student Legal and Mediation Services

SHSU has an attorney on staff that can advise students about their legal rights. That's pretty impressive! Student Legal and Mediation Services provides one-on-one legal consultation, as well as mediation. The office is located in the Lowman Student Center.

8. Services For Students With Disabilities

This is one of the most important services offered to SHSU students. This department offers testing accommodations, note-taking help, specialized computers, and many other accommodations for students who utilize their services.
