As school gets started across the country, it’s time to get back into the swing of classes as well as getting your social life back on track. If it’s your second or third time moving on to campus, you’ll have no problem adjusting back to the night life culture of college.
For first years, however, it may take a moment to get used to. I love watching clueless freshman as much as the next upperclassmen but I was there once so let me lend a helping hand to the freshmen who may not know what they’re doing.
1. Eat before you go
I have never seen food while I’ve been out and about so it’s best to eat before you go. I would do this to create a base layer in your stomach for whatever else you add.
2. Drink water before and after
This is the same with eating before- creating a base layer. It is always hot when you go to parties.
Everyone else is sweating and you probably will too. The water will help flush your system and prevent dehydration in those hot temperatures. Plus we all know to drink water, a lot of water, after to prevent any hangover that may occur..
3. Have your student ID
This isn’t just a party rule; this is a life rule. Coming from someone who lost their ID for two days and couldn’t do anything, trust me when I say that your student ID is your lifeline.
4. Wear sensible shoes
Yes, gladiator sandals are cute, but do you know how gross basement floors can get? Also, they don’t protect your toes from people stepping on you while dancing/stumbling, so it’s better to protect yourself all around.
Go for the classic Converse or Vans. You never know how far you’re going to have to walk in a night.
5. You don’t have to sacrifice cuteness for comfort
All of my “party shirts” are mostly cotton, comfortable enough for me to sleep in if needed. Plus you wouldn’t want to ruin a cute shirt. Throw a necklace on with a fun neckline t shirt and you’re good to go.
6. Have a person on hand who doesn't go out in case you need them
If you’re smart, you won’t need them, but it never hurts to be prepared. Lucky for me, some of my best friends don’t go out, so I always have a lifeline. You may also have friends that don’t drink; bring them out with you to be the mom of the group.
7. Know where the nearest bathroom is
That information never hurt anyone.
8. If you set your cup down, get a new cup
My mom has told me this since I was about five years old so I figured I should throw it in here. But you never know what could happen when you leave a drink unattended.
