My little hometown on the South Shore of Massachusetts has a population of only 7,000 people but is a beautiful place to live. There are some obvious signals that show that someone has lived there their whole life.
1. You jumped the bridge.
Border Street bridge, or just "the bridge" is the most popular bridge to jump off. You basically have not had a childhood if you have not been peer pressured by your friends to jump off of it.
2. You met your friends downtown.
In elementary school and middle school, everyone would text their friends to meet in downtown Cohasset and walk around the center, even though there's really not much to do.
3. You got a Mike's special from the Deli.
Although the Deli no longer exists, it was a huge part of everyone's childhood. Their famous sandwich (the Mike's special) which is a sub with chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, was a fan favorite. Looking back at that, I'm thankful I had a faster metabolism.
4. You went to the sandbar.
It only exists during the lowest tide, but the beach that emerges outside the harbor is a great place to spend the hottest of summer days.
5. You sailed as a kid.
Whether at the Sailing Club or its rival the Yacht Club, every kid in Cohasset has been taught to sail at some point in their life.
6. You got yelled at by a lifeguard at Sandy Beach.
Whether it was for climbing on the rocks, swimming out too far, or digging a hole too deep, those lifeguards seemed to always find a reason to blow their whistle and yell at you.
7. You went through the entire public school system.
From Osgood to Deer Hill to the middle and then high school, you stayed loyal to the blue and white that is Cohasset.
8. Someone asked you what a Skipper is.
The infamous mascot of Cohasset High School is a very unfamiliar figure. To answer, a skipper is the sailor who steers the ship.
