8 Signs You Call Charlottesville Home

If you're from Charlottesville, you've probably done most of these

For the past 11 years, I have had the privilege of calling Charlottesville, Virginia my hometown. From trips to go peach picking to ice skating on the downtown mall during Christmas time, I have known a sense of community and inclusiveness that I will forever have. Here are 10 of the many things that may be something you or someone you know has done because they are from C-ville:

1. You Have Had your notes app filled with orders for Bodo's

Bodo's Bagels is my all time favorite place to eat and not even a week into college am I already missing it. Their excessive cream cheese and variety of flavors create bagels like no other, and I still have not tasted anything better than their cinnamon sugar and butter combo.

2. You Have Gone Apple or Peach Picking at Carter's Mountain

Whether with friends or family, Carter's Mountain is a wonderful place to spend the day or watch the sunset with your fresh picked fruit. The apple cider and apple donuts are also a must.

3. You Have Been to a concert

Despite the size of C-ville, we have been known to host major artists come play at our venues, whether downtown or at John Paul John's Arena. People travel from all over and create a kind of atmosphere that welcomes all types of music!

4. You Have Gone Hiking

It may not be located directly in C-ville, but hiking is a popular pastime, especially at Humpback Rock or Sugar Hollow. Grabbing your friends for a fun car ride only to be followed by a short or long hike and beautiful view is the absolute best.

5. You Have Visited Monticello

This attraction is absolutely stunning and we have probably been once or twice (or a lot more). We have all either taken a family trip or field trip multiple times.

6. You Have Visited the Art IX Park

This recent addition to C-ville has attracted tons of attention and is one that is worth the visit! Take pictures with friends, picnic alongside the artwork and more.

7.You Have Attended a UVA sporting event

Whether you collected all your ticket stubs or not, chances are if you are from C-ville you have attended a UVA sporting event. Friday nights were times to meet up at games with your friends and share your usual pack of skittles (because what else would you get?).

8. You Have Seen a play or show at the Paramount

How many field trips did we take there? Even if you cannot remember what you saw, you most likely went to see a show at the Paramount recently or when you were in grade school.

Overall, the beautiful city has an incredible amount of things do to and traditions that we are born into. Thank you, C-ville, for raising me with these traditions and helping me to meet friends I will cherish these memories with forever. This kind, loving city will only continue to grow stronger.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
