Not many people are lucky enough to say that their mom is their best friend. For as long as I can remember, my mom has been one of mine. I've always gone to her for every little problem I have, we always had random movie nights before I moved out, and for ten years we would watch "American Idol" together every week. In honor of my mom coming down to school to visit me this past week, here are some signs that your mom is your best friend.
1. You have adorable pictures from when you were a kid
We have tons more, but I didn't want to have to ask her to send me them...It wouldn't have been a surprise otherwise!
2. You call and text her all the time
This is one of my all-time favorite texts with her, circa 2012. Now, however, I call my mom at least once--if not twice--a day and usually text her throughout.
3. She's your travel buddy
Over the years, my mom and I have gone to the Outer Banks, Asheville, Gatlinburg, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Myrtle Beach....and many, many more places.
4. You always have a standing lunch date
I can't tell you how many times my mom and I have gone out for sushi....it's like the only thing we really know how to do.
5. You take silly pictures with very important statues
I think we did this for every statue in D.C....
6. You [used to] post sweet messages on her Facebook wall
Yes, I really did look through our Facebook friendship for this post from five years ago...
7. When you're two hours away for school and you're sick, but she still makes the drive down to take you to lunch
I felt so sick and I was coughing a lot, but it was worth it for the three hours I got to spend with her for the first time in a month.
8. She's your biggest supporter
No matter how depressed I was in high school or how many times I wanted to drop out of community college because I was too stressed out, she was always there when I cried. She was the first person I hugged after both my high school and community college graduations. She's never once told me that my ambitious dreams of being a best-selling author are never going to happen; she's only ever told me that she knows I can do it. When I joined the gym and started to lose weight, she was the only family member who believed in me. I could go on for a while...
Without my mom, I don't know where I would be in life. She's my rock, my go-to, my best friend. She's one of the most important people in my life. I'm lucky as hell to have her as one of my best friends, and I can only hope that other daughters are best friends with their mothers, too.
