Millions of people tune into the Superbowl every year. Even many people who are not a fan of football tune in every year as an excuse to dig into as many hot wings as they possibly can and laugh at the memorable commercials. I'm going to be completely honest; I have never been a big sports fan. I am one of those people who still watch the Superbowl every year to get away with eating as much food as I possibly can take in and laugh at the commercials. And as far as this year went, everyone can brag about the Patriots losing.
In 2005, a new tradition was created by Animal Planet for all those doggo-lovers out there: the Puppy Bowl, which is shown every year on Superbowl Sunday, featuring puppies from animal shelters playing football inside a model stadium. Whether you're a sports fan or not, you cannot deny the happiness that dogs bring to millions of people. So, here are several reasons why the Puppy Bowl is better than the Superbowl.
1. You feel instant happiness
Who doesn't feel happy instantly when spending time with (or even watching videos of) our furry friends?
2. You can go to bed earlier
One of the biggest complaints about Superbowl Sunday is how late it ends and how people will dread waking up Monday morning more than they usually do. The Puppy Bowl is only two hours long (originally three), and will end by around 8:30-9:00, which will also give you more time to catch up on work you put off.
3. No matter who you're rooting for, everyone wins
Team Dog FTW!!
4. All the players are up for adoption
Since all the puppies featured in the Puppy Bowl are from animal shelters and rescue organizations, you're making the world a better place by supporting local animal shelters while watching it.
5. So. Many. Puns.
I know not everyone's a pun-person, but you can't help but feel instantly happy, even when the cheesiest of puns are being made.
6. The halftime show never disappoints
Not everyone will be a fan of whoever will be performing the halftime show every year, but one thing's for sure, no one was disappointed when the Keyboard Cat took the halftime show in 2014.
7. It's therapeutic overall
Having furry friends to keep you company is very therapeutic and can decrease stress and ease depression and anxiety, so watching the Puppy Bowl can give you a therapeutic two hours. Plus, it's a lot more calming than yelling at your screen for four hours.
