Alright, so, he catches a lot of heat for being egocentric and crazy, and well, honestly, that's not undeserved. However, this isn't to say that Kanye doesn't also have many redeeming qualities. At first, I wasn't a huge fan of his, but once I listened to more of his music, especially from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, I just couldn't help it. I was won over by the music. So, here are some reasons why I think he should be looked at in a positive light.
1. He’s confident
He’s confident, his music is confident, his music makes me confident, thus it is perfect to listen to before something I need to do that makes me nervous (like say, presentations).
2. He’s inspirational
In this sense, and others, he can be inspirational, because he invites one to be as completely self-assured as he is, and he invites one to achieve. For example, he made a comment about how if he had stuck to art in the conventional sense, then he would have aspired to be Picasso or greater. He then mentions how it is funny to people that he would compare himself to someone who has done so much and goes on to say that it is “that[] mentality that suppresses humanity." At the very least, that’s a call to strive for the absolute best.
3. He’s extremely nonconformist
Feeding into this is, he often speaks out on how he is hated but mentions that it’s essentially reciprocal to the amount of success and esteem that he enjoys. In this sense, he is doubly inspirational/motivational, because he invites his listeners to share in his apathy towards the opinion of others, which at times can be useful. However, it is still important to consider other people — but the idea is to not be held back by other people.
4. He’s a (shameless) individual
He is unapologetically himself, which, when tempered, is also a good trait to have.
5. Self-belief to the point of solipsism
Basically, he is the extreme example of what it looks like when someone believes in his or herself.
6. He’s assertive
He isn’t scared to say what he thinks. Sometimes what he says doesn’t make any sense, especially in interviews, but there are countless times in his songs where he speaks out, particularly on issues of politics and race and the interplay between the two.
7. He’s eloquent
His lyricism is witty, and he often manages to bundle his sentiments about politics and race and power into a few powerful sentences.
8. He's determined
He recorded his first single with his jaw wired shut. If that’s not perseverance I don’t know what is.
Of course, he can be quite misogynistic, though there are rare moments when he isn’t. I would like to say, though, that the point of making derogatory comments about women in many cases seems to be more of a braggadocious reason than an offensive just for offense's sake reason, and in this way, it fits in with his other statements that are clearly intended to be boastful. He can also be egotistical, which perhaps should instead be phrased as "he can sometimes be not egotistical", but no one is perfect, right? He has plenty of admirable traits (in moderation), and he has given the world a lot of great music.
