8 Reasons To Be Happy

There is always a reason to smile

8 Reasons To Be Happy
Jill Wellington

I think people often forget how to be happy. I know we all go through some rough times, but it's the little things that can totally turn things around. There is so much to be thankful for, and I wish people were reminded more often. These are just a few that really relate to me, but the list is endless. There is always a reason to be happy.

1. You Are Alive And Healthy

These two actually go hand in hand. You are healthy enough to be alive and what more could you want? Some people aren’t as lucky, but here you are, so live it up!

2. You Have People Who Care About You

Say what you want, but I believe there's always at least one person out there who cares about you. The best feeling is knowing there’s someone you can always count on, whether it be a family member, a best friend, or heck even your dog. Someone loves you for you and that’s awesome.

3. Naps Exist

Naps are a life saver and this is coming from someone who rarely naps. There are way too many benefits when it comes to naps. Sometimes I like to nap when I’m not feeling well and wake up feeling like a brand new person. Naps are so refreshing and can really be a mood changer. Also, it’s one of the best reasons to avoid people and who doesn't enjoy that every once in awhile? If not all the time.

4. You Are Out Of That Unhealthy Relationship

I think most of us can relate to dating or befriending someone who treats you terribly. Sometimes it takes years until you get rid of the toxic people in your life. It makes me so happy knowing I don't have that negativity in my life anymore. Like, go me. I overcame that and now I can live a happy life again, stress free!

5. Food Is Bae

Please tell me who doesn’t enjoy eating? Food is probably an unhealthy addiction, but do what makes you happy, right? I’ve lost count of all the times I’ve just sat around with friends eating and all my worries suddenly feel pointless. Yes, food is life.

6. You Can Always Start Over Tomorrow

We’re often told to live life with no regrets, but how many can actually say that? I know sometimes I make choices that I wish I hadn’t, but we kind of get somewhat of a redo. Knowing there’s always a new day to start over is always reassuring. Remember that bad hair day? That's okay, there’s always a new day for better hair. Remember losing the courage to try something new? Don't worry, you can wait another day to work up the courage.

7. Music Is My Escape

Music really fuels my happiness. I turn to music for any emotion I am feeling. Feeling sad? Listen to music that cheers you up! Feeling mad? Listen to music that calms you! Feeling happy? Listen to music that makes you even happier! Music really fuels the soul and I can’t imagine a life without it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
