Halloweekend is over and I can bet that everyone is going to start blaring Christmas music and shopping for presents right at the start of November 1st. All the stores will have their Christmas displays out and we will all start watching the Grinch and counting down the days until December 25th.
Please don't.
If you already have on socks that have little elves on them and are listening to the Christmas Pandora station, stop it right now. You are missing a very important time of the year. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we should be getting ready for that. The second you wake up after Thanksgiving day, feel free to let the Christmas spirit radiate out of your eyeballs, but for now you have to calm down. Here are 8 reasons why you shouldn't overlook Thanksgiving.
1. You're missing the whole point of the holiday and need to be more thankful.
Be thankful that you get to spend the day with your family and eat mounds of delicious food. The whole holiday is based around being thankful for what you have, and you are obviously abusing that right by forgetting about it and only focusing on Christmas.
2. All the food.
Boat loads of gravy. Stuffing. Turkey. Mimosas. Need I say more?
3. It's a great opportunity to work on your patience.
It is a virtue that none of us have. Waiting to prepare for Christmas is a great time to practice having patience.
4. You will ruin Christmas for everyone you love.
Seems harsh, but everyone around you will get so sick of hearing Christmas music and movies that once the time comes around, they will get annoyed and always associate you with Christmas in a negative way. Don't ruin lives like that.
5. It's 70 degrees out.
It is absolutely impossible to feel cheerful, snuggly and have Christmas spirit if it's over 45%.
6. The semester is not almost over.
When I think of Christmas, I think of a time when I don't have to go to class everyday and right now, the end of the semester is nowhere near sight.
7. You don't want to put away your pumpkins.
Everyone loves pumpkins and fall decorations, so why put them away so you can put up a Christmas tree?
8. Just calm down.
Don't get ahead of yourself. Live in the present. Be excited for Thanksgiving.
