8 Reasons I Love Butler
Tailgaters Handbook

A little less than two years ago I visited Butler for the first time. It was love at first step. I fell in love with the campus as soon as I stepped onto campus for the first time. I knew I wanted to be a student at Butler. My dream became a reality a little over two months after the first time I visited Butler. In the months leading up to my freshman year I visited Butler three times. Each visit I fell more in love with the campus and I knew I made the right decision by committing to Butler. I could not see myself anywhere but here.

1. Trip

Trip is the greatest mascot to walk the face of the Earth. He is probably the happiest dog ever. Wherever he goes he gets attention from everyone and everyone recognizes him. He is one of the most iconic symbols of Butler.

2. Job Placement Rate

Butler has a 95% job placement rate right after graduation. Not many colleges have the kinds of connections Butler students do. Butler students have connections to Eli Lilly, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Pacers, and the Colts, etc. Having these kinds of connections in Butler's backyard gives Butler student an advantage when they graduate.

3. Small Campus Life

Butler has a small campus. Having this small campus makes everyone feel connected. Even with he small campus you still do not know everyone on campus. Yes you run into familiar faces but you also get to meet a lot of new people. Another good thing about the small campus is nothing is a far walk. The farthest walk is about 20 minutes and that is the walk from onesie of campus to the other. Plus most academic buildings are connected with a walkway.

4. Butler Basketball

Who does not love basketball? Butler has one of the most iconic basketball arenas, Hinkle Fieldhouse. Hinkle is a wonderful place to watch basketball. You get the feeling of an old stadium with a modern touch. It also helps that Butler has a pretty decent basketball team. I have gone to basketball games at other places before but nothing compares to watching Butler basketball at Hinkle.

5. Friends

I have made some of my closest friends here at Butler. Even if I am not really close with someone, if we see each other in passing we say hi to each other. That is what is great about Butler. Even if you do not necessarily know someone they will be friendly towards you.

6. Academics

Butler has great academics. Yes the academics are challenging at times but thats what makes Butler great. The academics are challenging because they want to make sure you know what you are doing when you graduate. They also have a pretty strict common core for the university. Even though the academics are hard, the professors are always willing to help.

7. Home

Butler is home. 317 has become home. I am not from the Indianapolis area but being a Butler student has made me feel connected to the Indianapolis community. I still consider my home my home but I have also found another home at Butler.

8. BUtiful Campus

The beauty of Butler's campus is amazing. Even on rainy days campus is still beautiful. There are two season where Butler is even prettier: fall and spring. It is amazing to see the tress changing colors in the fall and then to see all the flowers on the trees in the spring. I am really glad I picked Butler almost two years ago!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
