8 Productive Study Breaks For The Studious Student

Because we all need a break every once in a while.

I’m all about taking a sneaky little study break.

Studying is hard, and everyone deserves a break in the midst of long hours at the library! These are my favorite ways to take a step back from the grind while also staying in a productive mindset.

1. Take a walk.

My attention span is literally non-existent. I get antsy if I don’t get up and move around at least once every 1-2 hours. If you’re like this, I recommend taking a small stroll outside or even just through the halls of the building you’re in!

2. Stretch.

Kind of like walking, this option will get your body moving and ~rejuvenated~ to gear up for the next few hours of studying. You can do a low-key stretch if you’re located in a densely populated area, but if you want to do the downward dog in the middle of the library I support it.

3. Watch a TED Talk.

I am a huge fan of TED Talks. They get me hype. I always finish watching them feeling incredibly motivated. TED Talks make me feel like I can do anything. I could run twelve miles. I could take up a hobby of parkour. I could do research in Antarctica. Okay, maybe not. But I can do my homework.

4. Eat a healthy snack.

As a huge foodie, this break is one of my faves. Sometimes if you can’t focus during studying, your brain might just need some fuel! My favorite snacks include, but are not limited to: apples (or any fruit, the possibilities are endless), KIND bars, PB crackers, or pretzels.

5. Snag some coffee.

I won’t lie, I have *at least* two coffees a day. I’m working on this problem, but in all honesty, it’s not a problem I want to fix. I enjoy my daily coffee(s). And they make me more productive. So, if you are a coffee lover too, use your study break to get your fix of caffeine.

6. Call your mom/dad/brother/sister/friend/random contact.

Sometimes it’s nice to just have a little chat with someone as a study break. Occasionally when I study, I’ll go for hours without speaking to another human. I enjoy chatting with my mom to catch up on what is going on at home to take my mind off of work for a quick bit.

7. Take a nap.

Yes, sleep. It works! A small 30-minute power nap can energize you for more study hours. Just be careful to not let your nap last for three hours (speaking from experience oops).

I hope these tips will be beneficial to you for your future studying endeavors. Happy studying!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
