Playlists seem to have become an essential part of our culture. I’ve seen playlists for workouts, summer jams and even sleep. As a music geek I have tons of different playlists. But my most played playlist is the one that gives me drive. Theses are the songs with lyrics that encourage me not only to dream but to make the dream come true. Songs about making success happen.

These are what I call my eight Power Anthems and I’ll share a little bit about wh

1. Live to Win by Paul Stanley

Where do I begin with this one? Let’s start by saying that this man since childhood has inspired me even when I didn’t know why. From KISS to his solo album released in 2006 that I related to all through high school and beyond, but this song really drives it all home. From the emotions of feeling like you can’t and won’t succeed to the driving chorus, this is my number one song.

2. Stand Out by Tevin Cambell

This one goes way back to my childhood. From the days of sitting around watching Disney films and dreaming some of them were real. This song comes from A Goofy Movie. The very idea of standing out from the crowd drives me everyday to be successful. After all what do all of the most successful people have in common (besides money and notoriety)? They made an impact.

3. My Way by KISS

Here we go…another one sung by Paul Stanley. This one was with KISS. This one is similar to Live to Win, but without the personal touch of negative emotions. This one is more about cutting a path and being yourself on the road to success. It reminds me that sometimes the path to success is a tough grade that you must take, but you can power through and do it your own way in your style.

4. Crazy Dreams by Carrie Underwood

I think this one may be pretty self explanatory. Carrie uses the lyrics of this song to remind us all that even our craziest dreams can come true.

5. Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson

Another great song that drives me forward. I’ve always wanted to be somewhere else. I once thought I could only do that dreaming and reading. I’m learning more now that it’s my time to ‘breakaway’ from the life I’ve always lived to be who I always dreamed I could be. This is MY song.

6. No Boundaries as sung by Adam Lambert

I don’t think it matters who sings this song the lyrics are more important to me than the vocalist. It’s a great reminder to me that there really are no boundaries between me and what I want to accomplish except myself.

7. Independence by The Band Perry

This song is similar to Breakaway. It’s about getting away and being independent from the place where you’ve always been. And the only way to find out if that’s true is by going and doing what you’ve never done with or without the approval of others.

And finally…

8. Where Angels Dare by Paul Stanley

This song also came off of his solo album in 2006 like Live to Win. This one hit more because of the chorus than anything else:

You

Me

No we won’t back down

Let all the other wait

I want someday, someway right now

Can I join him in this great anthem of making things happen?

These are my eight power anthems that I need daily to remind myself that success is possible. What are yours?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
