8 Perks of Being the Youngest Sister

If it wasn't for them and what they have shown me about life so far, I don't know if I would be where I am today.

Going through life I have always had my older sisters by my side, but in a little different way because I am much younger than them. However, we seem to make it work, no matter how strange our relationship may seem to others who have a "normal" age difference with their siblings. What's strange to some is normal to others. And when push comes to shove we will always love and be there for each other.

1. Nobody will mess with you because your siblings are the only ones allowed to.

What can I say, even as the youngest sister I feel protective of my sisters at times, it's just in our nature to protect each other from things that could harm each other. They stand up for you when you are in danger and will do everything they can to keep you safe.

2. I can learn from their mistakes.

In a strange way, this is one of the best, most helpful things for me. I don't judge my sisters' paths but I know that I want to take a different path in my life. If it wasn't for them and what they have shown me about life so far, I don't know if I would be where I am today.

3. They protect you.

Another perk of having older siblings is that they are always looking out for you. They will always tell you what their perception of your situation is and give you great advice. And if they think you're in danger they are going to go into "big sister mode" and you shall not be harmed and if you are, someone is going to pay for it.

4. You're likely a young aunt/uncle.

My sister had her oldest son when I was 10. Granted we do have a large age gap between us as sisters, it's fun because I have gotten to grow up watching my niece and nephews growing up into little people as well.

5. They give you advice and support.

I have found that even when I don't know what I should do, the input from my sisters is always helpful. And at the end of the day, they are going to support you no matter what you do, even if they don't agree with your decisions.

6. They celebrate your achievements.

Anything that is considered an achievement, they are happy for you and always willing to celebrate with you. It's a good feeling to know that someone besides yourself and your parents are proud of your achievements.

7. Turning 18 is a huge deal.

When I turned 18 it was a huge deal. Their baby sister was officially an adult, and now we can do adult things together. It was lots of fun on my 18th birthday with my sisters, I had so much fun and I know they felt like I had grown up so fast because I feel that way about my niece and nephews.

8. They help you survive school and work.

Whether it be school or work, they are always there to help you make your life decisions. I can't begin to count the times where my sisters have helped me through problems with school or work. It seems like something is always happening between work and school and I'm always willing to listen to the advice they have for me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
