Ah, spring break. The infamous time where college-goers nationwide hit the beach and party up.
Well, at least most college-goers.
If you're like me, and you're absolutely broke from study abroad, chances are you hit your bed at home with a nice meal from mom and dad instead. But, this is nothing to complain about; in fact, here are 8 great things about spring breaking at home:
1. Unlimited sleep.
Spring semester has absolutely exhausted you. After not sleeping for a straight two months, it's never a bad thing to be able to catch up on some much-needed rest during spring break.
2. Free food?! Yes, please.
If you've lived at college with your own kitchen, you'd know by now just how expensive groceries are. Especially the healthy stuff. So, when you come home to free food in a fully-stocked fridge, not only does it bring tears of joy to your eyes, but it also allows you to save up some cash. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
3. It's an excuse to have some much-needed 'me time.'
At college, you are constantly surrounded by people, even in your dorm. And as much as you love your friends, sometimes it's nice to just unwind and spend some time with yourself, doing what you like to do. And if you're an introvert like me, spring break is a great time to recharge your energy after constant stimulation. So go ahead--take a bubble bath, watch the Netflix shows you want to watch, read as many books as you like--you deserve it.
4. You can catch up with family and friends...
Odds are, it's been a couple of months since you've seen your family or friends from home. Spring breaking at home is the best time to catch up with your family members and any friends from home that have the same spring break as you. They definitely missed you, and you'd be lying if you said you didn't miss them!
5. ...and catch up with our furry friends!
Our pets are near and dear to our hearts, and having to spend time away from them is never fun. Spring break is the best time to force your dog to cuddle with you (because half the time, they run away whenever you try to love them).
6. It's a great time to catch up on homework--although it's definitely not an activity at the top of the list!
If you're in college, you know that it's pretty much impossible to complete all of your assignments to its best ability, socialize, and take care of yourself all at once. So, you prioritize. Based on how you prioritize, you might be a little bit behind. Having ten days to catch up on work is great, even if it's not something you're super excited for. Doing a little bit each day is a great way to stay organized, focused, and enjoy your break all at once!
7. You can try any new restaurants or stores that popped up while you were gone.
New coffee shop in town? Or how about a new boutique? A lot happens at home while you're away at college, so coming home with no plans is the best time to grab your mom, dad, sibling, BFF or even dog and hit the road to explore what's new!
8. Finally, who says you can't bring Cancún to your home?
Gather your best friends and family, make some guac and margs, and bring some spring break fun to your own home!
