8 Things Every 'Mom Friend' Needs To Bring To College

Every person needs a "mom away from mom" friend.

Now that college is starting, mom friends alike are over-prepping for those "What if this happens..." moments. If you are "that friend," there are certain things you need to bring to college to take care of your squad.

1. Cough syrup, tissues and cough drops

Everyone gets sick and no one likes to be miserable. Going out when you look like the Bride of Frankenstein is not going to be the highlight of your day. Save the trip for yourself or your besties and stock up on cold and flu medication.

2. Personal products

There will always be a time where someone on your floor forgets to buy a box before Aunt Flo comes for a visit. The good thing about living with girls is that there will always be an abundance of tampons, pads and liners. If you ask, I highly doubt a girl will deny you a tampon because we have all been there before.

3. Condoms

This one is super important for parties and college in general. People are getting freedom for maybe the first time in their life and they will make mistakes! According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 10 million people between the ages of 15-24 are diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases every year, so bringing condoms with you is a MUST to ensure your squad is safe. Also, I'm sure getting pregnant is not on anyone's "College To-do List," so protect yourself and your friends by buying a box and taking some to parties.

4. Dry shampoo

Having an 8 a.m. on Friday mornings will be the death of you and your friends after a night out. Whether you decide to sleep in a few extra minutes or you're just too lazy to take a shower, dry shampoo will be a lifesaver for those greasy heads. A couple sprays and shakes and you can be out the door.

5. Snacks

Your dorm will be a hangout spot if you have good snacks and Netflix. Some people forgot to buy snacks for move-in day, so inviting a couple people over for a night in will not only help you make friends, it will solidify your dorm as the hangout spot.

6. A printer

This is not only convenient for you and your roommate, but also people on your floor. This saves a lot of people time and money by letting them use your printer instead of the library's or computer labs.

7. School supplies

During class, some people forget a highlighter or sticky notes. But not to worry, your mom friend is here. Yes, you might be over-the-top by having a pencil case in college, but it's useful. Who knows? That hunk in math 117 that borrows a highlighter every day may be your future husband.

8. Advice

Like every mom, mom friends have enough advice to go around for anyone who needs it. Whether your friends need advice about boys, money, friends or school, mom friends can be their helping hand and their "mom away from mom."

Take time out of your day to realize that mom friends are the best friends.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
